In this race they were just not competitive .And Schumacher laready knew it before.
I think they were expecting a solid points finish that´s about it,really.

Schumacher is strong in monaco and Nico will be distracted by his mates ..how often do you get to have a race in your backyard...

It's a pity Schumacher got a penalty; I really think he will thrive here.

will he get a good tyre supply ? I doubt it as long as he is rising his voice...btw Mercedes drop in performance since Schumi had a say...and Haug + Rosberg at pains to tell the complete opposite...strange.

The conspiracy theorist in me tells me that the FIA has asked Pirelli to deliver tyres with different performance stochastically,
or perhaps not so stochastically, all in order to have unpredictable races where even a Williams can win...?

Oops...perhaps the wrong thread?

That's a surprising statement coming from you Marcus! :) I think the weekends where the car did well were just what happens with this years tyres, coupled with a good general set up a a track, and the fact that other teams were on the backfoot with certain developments.

But I certainly don't believe that Pirelli hands them unfavorable tyres. =/

you are right,mx ..I´m getting carried away here with frustration it seems ...but the sheer coincidence of happenings and teams OBVIOUSLY telling bs about the happenings -Mercedes claiming the tyres were brand new after Rosberg came into the pits thinking they were gone ...they run tyre pressure sensors do they ..I don´t think the guy who has the special feel for tyres right at the edge can get it sooo wrong....
and the balance shifting back and forth in the races so extremely when cars are closely matched in qualy as never before..that´s strange very strange.

I'm just utterly shocked about a "journalist" being able to write bullshit like this :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson ... iocre.html

Just look at this :

"A senior member of the Mercedes team used the word "mediocre" last weekend when discussing the 43-year-old's driving, and that was before Schumacher clumsily ran into the back of Senna's car in the race."

"mediocre" but 4 tenths faster than Nico on the hard tyres in Q1, 22/1000 behind in Q2, while Nico did not improve his lap time in Q3. And matching in pace on the first stint of the race.

What a load of crap !

Yeah it is quite odd.

Out of the 5 races so far:
Schumacher had two technical-failure DNF's retiring from 3rd place each time. (AUS/gearbox; CHI/wheelnut)
He had one technical-failure in qualifying which knocked him out of Q3, and managed to get back to 10th (compare with Hamilton getting back to 8th) (BAH/drs-failure)
He had one racing incident arguably caused by Grosjean from 5th place which pushed him down to 16th where he recovered to 10th.
One driver error which put him out of the race (Senna collision).

I think Benson is another journalist looking for sensationalist headlines. Journalists like doing that.

Whilst he is on the same points as Massa, you have to say you'd rate Schumi's performance over Massas any day! Massa has genuinely struggled in both qualifying and the race without any strategic, technical, or racing incidents!

Just wanted to point out that Schumi has always been a risk taker, whilst - at least until his antics at Bahrain - Rosberg has been a steadfast, reliable driver.
Just compare 2011 where they had virtually the same points haul, yet Schumi had multiple times the number of incidents.

For a team, it's a good contrast to have in a set of drivers.

Quoting from the above mentioned article: "Schumacher's reaction will have surprised no-one in F1 - he has always seemed to lack the ability to accept he can ever be wrong."
What a load of crap!i remember last season after one of his incidents with Petrov he accepted that it was his fault, on his own without being questioned. If he had finished all the races barring those where the team let him down, he would be up there with Rosberg. I used to think Andrew Benson was a sensible guy.

What's intriguing is who the so-called "senior member of the Mercedes team" is, if there's any truth to the article at all. I get the impression that the Daimler/Mercedes board members aren't particularly impressed with Ross & Schu, but those Stuttgart suits aren't typically referred to as "senior members of the Mercedes team."

Ross, Norbert and Nick Fry have all been solidly & consistently behind Michael's efforts to get back to the front. I'd be surprised if it's Bob Bell. Jock Clear then, perhaps?

It is a shame to see people coming down so hard on Schumi when much of his lack of success comes from the Merc garage or his car just being unreliable.

From what I recall of the track incidents Schu had been involved in since his comeback, his reactions had always been calmly philosophical, just shrugging his shoulders and attributing those to racing incidents, even those times where he was clearly the aggrieved party.

With the pressure from needing to do well after 4 difficult races, it looks like he finally snapped out of frustration from a 5th straight race ruined by circumstances, resulting in some harsh words for Bruno.

Unless those holes, slots, pipes & ducts can contribute towards helping the car & driver make the tyres work as it should, then regular podiums aren't likely to figure in the team's future race results. As it is, they've already lost in Catalunya the qualifying advantage that the so-called DDRS is supposed to bring them.

I agree on the technical issues he's had. Even considering that, I think Schumi needs to step up his level ASAP, and deliver some results, otherwise this comeback will end horribly.

He still has most of the season ahead of him... let's see what can he do.
