The non ground effect 312T3 had to be adapted to run venturis and the chassis was a complete redesign in a new monocoque technology. It had to be very narrow due to the width of the flat 12 engine. The venturis also were narrower than the competitor's for the same reason. Ferrari did not win due to aero performance but due to the engine grunt and reliability.

I believe the alu sandwich monocoque was revolutionary in F1. It was standard at that time in aircraft design but very much ahead of its time in F1.
Good call.
But the technology I meant have much more widespread use. A hint, check Ferrari's technological partners that year.

Pininfarina and Fiat were involved.

Ok, got it. Michelin radial tyres! Michelin introduced them 1977 but the 1979 championship with Ferrari was the first big success.

Yes, Jody is the first F1 champion on radial tyres. Superior performance of Michelin was important for Ferrari, as their wide engines didn't allow for big venturis and ground effect was compromised.

PS, your go, of course, WhiteBlue!

Lordy but I'm an eejit! It's 1:20am here in Oz and I'm dog tired so this will have to be a top-of-the-head free gift for someone.

Which were the first two countries to hold two World Drivers Championship rounds on their soil in a season?

Name the tracks involved and the years these two firsts took place.

I'm feeling guilty that I'm going to leave all you Northern Hemisphereans in limbo by going off to bed for 7 hours or so. So here's an honour thing. Look here for the answer but ONLY after you've put your own answer/guess in the thread. Any cheating and you'll develop a pimple on your tongue and feel bad about yourself!!!!

Whoever HONESTLY wins goes next.

Happy thinking... I'm off to the land of nod!
