Bernie said in Barcelona that Mercedes is going to sign the new concorde. He had a meeting with Zetsche also in Barcelona.

Interesting read. Could it be that Merc in Spain was slower in qualifying because they opted for a less aggressive setup that would preserve tires longer in race? And if thats the case, can we expect good q performance in Monaco and again high race degradation?

Probably. They said before the weekend that, Barcelona was going to be tricky. And they're optimistic for Monaco.

Maybe they'll be right again?

Who knows, depends on what the Pirelli team serve up.

Agreed. With one or two exceptions that come to mind, they're usually quite frank about their perceived odds. So if they're optimistic, I'll be too.

Yeah. I expect Schumacher to be a beast in quali, should things go according to plan. Too bad about the 5 place grid drop.

The interesting part with Dr Zetsche's meeting in Spain with MrE over the new Concord and coming flotation, which most of us new about, was why this coincided with Ross Brawn's "medical condition". Is it like JET suggests that RB's "hammer attitude" doesn't really work with MrE or was it something a little more significant than that?

maybe zetsche has the impression Brawn is just too friendly with Ecclestone to negotiate something like the concorde agreement and thought it was better to speak on equal eye level with the boss?

Either way, it means that Brawn has now gone bye-bye. Not to have your Team Principal there means that's it.

From a political point of view it does make more sense for DrZ to negotiate rather than Brawn. Brawn after all still wants to keep the team in F1, so any posturing by Brawn to leave F1 can only ever be a bluff. DrZ on the other hand has the power not only to threaten to leave, but to threaten to pull out all engine supply - something that has never been under Brawn's remit. Another factor is that as head of Daimler, DrZ has far more influence in the world than RB, so BE might see it as an opportunity to do a little "I scratch your back, if you scratch my back" kind of thing.

Munudeges I think is wrong when he suggests that Brawn not being party to negotiations is a bad thing. IMO, Team Principal is more an internal role for the sport but also the organisation of the team. Brawn is no longer the owner of this team, and ultimately, therefore he is more in administration than "the boss" - just like Christian Horner isn't the one making the important decisions about RBR.

You don't see John Elkann of Fiat negotiating with MrE on Ferrari's behalf, do you?

The tell-tale sign of RB's absence was the less than totally credible xcuse of his alleged "medical condition".

Personally, I don't think there's anything sinister about Brawn missing Spain on medical grounds. I expect status quo on the team management front until the end of 2013, although Ross might also be scheduled to skip a couple or so races next season for reasons of health preservation. It also fits with transitioning Bob Bell into taking on more & more of Ross' operational responsibilities from 2014 onwards.

Either way, it should be amusing to revisit this thread as events play out over the next few months to see just how accurate the 'predictions' were.

Bell? Eh? He's taking on the TP role? Or at least rumored to be? He was Renault TP towards the end of 2009 - don't think he liked it

I think DrZ and the board has realized by now that RB was Technical director and now Team principal in name only,
why he simply had to do these long term important things like negotiating MrE by himself.
