Re: BBC / Sky Sports

Post

Firstly mods feel free to delete this post and tell me off. Please don't ban me as I may not get any f1 next year.

I'm angry more than anything because today of all days I finally brought myself and my 4yr old daughter a Mclaren team shirt. Before i herd the news. The sad thing is I'm just as angry with the teams and F1 as I am the BBC. Look on autosport! Quotes from martin whitmarsh seam to point to him not being to happy with the news....fast forward an hour or so to when he's spoken to bernie and another article is posted on there site saying how there can be positives....shame mr whitmarsh....you've just been told there's a couple million pound sweetener to the teams and that MR James "interceptor" Murdock will be taking over total rights when the beeb pull out. So shut up and get with the program else we'll have you out just like max and ron!

If I wasn't so hard up, I would seriously consider burning the bloody shirt in protest and posting the vid to Mclaren...FOTA was set up to also give the teams a greater say in the sports future. If they DON'T speak up for the FANS then it's about MONEY. They turn there back on me...I turn my back on them....they'll loose more in the long run...

In the words of Jake "it's only a sport" to Mclaren.....it's a business. No fans...no money!

People, I have created a poll on here to find out your opinion.

Let people know what you think. I know that F1 insiders "watch" this site, so let's see what happens.

One other thing,

I Want the F1 teams to admit they dont give a toss about UK Fans! Becauase clearly they don't by carrying out an action like this.

I am a Mclaren fan, But they let this happen, so i not sure they my loyaltys lie now!

Oh and i complained to the BBC. I want them to admit this is not Good for F1 fans.

I really really wish we could organise a mass switch of for 2012, nobody in the uk (if any about else wants to join in that would be great) would watch the GP's until they go back to being free to view (i dont care what channel). Sponsors will freak, Teams will panic, The troll and the Minstry of Evil (news corp) get their arses handed to them. [-o<

Edit: (ok maybe its more than 1 thing)
I believe in the chain of command, Its the chain I use to beat you till you do what i want!!!

I'm beginning to think that, if I watch TV shows on iPlayer (or the other-channel equivalents) then I don't need a TV license. So, as we tend to watch crap on TV because it's on whilst we're eating dinner etc. (rather than because we are desparate to watch it), perhaps we should sell the TV, stop paying the license and watch F1 highlights on iPlayer. We'll be no worse off really and I might even get around to reading all of those bboks I want to read...

Oh, and we'll save £145 / year which would pay for a few nice evenings out in our local...

Well done BBC - in order to save money you've demonstrated that the British people can save money, avoid paying the license and the only loser is, um, you.

Good show Auntie...

I hear you richied76

It seems as though the sheep that make up 80% of F1's fan base really just want to see brightly coloured cars go round. It seems painfully apparent that team bosses are being made to be aware of this too.

The thing is, what can you do? Protest? It wont last very long.
You could vote with your feet and not watch, this will probably be the most effective action. But with 80% still retaining interest, the fallout wouldnt be massive even if all hardcore fans assumed that position.

I dont have sky, I fail to see the point of it when so much is readily available online. Its a fools errand to spend £700 a year on somthing you watch twice a month.

However, if sky can provide in depth coverage(and I mean meaty interviews with real content) worthy of considering, then I will take it all back. They have done a sterling job with football, you must admit.
I remain sceptical, because I think the ethos of F1 may be lost on them.

But IF they nail it, and nail it good...who would begrudge paying for what they love?(Im still 100 percent anti F1 on sky, but I do think if they have paid for it, they should be given the chance to do it right.)

The villain of the piece here as ever is the dimunitive greed monger Ecclestone. The man doesnt give a flying hoot about the sport, as demonstrated by his quite stupendous quotes these last few days.
In my dream of dreams I see FOTA giving bernie the finger and bringing top class motorsport to the masses without subscription....now if only they can grow some nads..... [-o<

I am not sure it's right to just blame BBC. Most of it must be to do with the price tag of the coverage that Eccelstone has put.

They will get more money from TV rigths but the viewing public and the sponsors will suffer. Its who gets what and how much of it and who gets to make the decisions.

I don't like it. They should at aknowledge that F1 is a very British sport and not just think about the short-term money gain they will have.

I wonder if F1 show is really good enough for pay tv.

Frankly, you lot sound like a bunch of spoiled brats. Even under the new deal, you've got it way better than most people in the world. Pay up if you want to watch it live. If you can't afford it, then watch the free races live and watch the others delayed. Or don't watch them at all. F1 isn't a birthright, you know.

I mean, I'm sorry that you guys won't be getting quite as good of a deal as you have now. But that's about the limit of my sympathy.

F1 isn't food or shelter. Do you really think that you're owed free F1, just because you're British?

My sentiments exactly. I could probably live with the deal a bit better if it came at the end of the current BBC contract. Think of everything that tried to change prematurely in F1 in recent times....

Blown diffuser regulations......argument.......changed back....I think help keep Mclaren & ferrari in the hunt this year.
Double diffuser......................world council meeting.............stayed the same....F1 dream story.
Button gate 1..........stayed........won world championship.....enough said
Button gate 2.....as above
Alonso anounsing leaving Mclaren a year early....well we all know how that ended....

I want to believe that sky will do a good job of f1 but just cant see it. I seam to remember years ago they did a service where you paid £5 to watch per F1 race weekend Inc practises, qual and all different driver cameras, pretty much what the BBC are doing at the min. Think this was the very first days of the digital sky boxes. Hopefully someone else can remember. I wouldn't complain if all the BBC crew went to work for sky and I paid the extra per race. But I wudnt be happy at paying for both. I'm sure if the taxpayers alliance wanted to they could have bent the rules and allowed people to pay £x towards a premium live Internet or red button stream to watch it live, with a highlights show for people interested in bright cars going fast :)

P.s an extra 400 complaints in and hour and thirty mins on BBC website....AT 01:30 AM!

How would I benefit from a group of hackers turning on an evidently corrupt media giant to cause unwanted activity in response to a business deal with one of it's subsidiary's? If I did it would be no more beneficial or illegal than the picture in your avatar that you probably don't own the copyright to but use it knowing it doest actually hurt anyone? Let's stay on subject though shall we

Yes.

We make most of the bloody cars, we staff most of the bloody teams. Take away the Brits and F1 would die. Instantly.

If the BBC went to the US and bought the rights for the Superbowl or went to Brazil and bought the rights for Soccer would the locals be happy if they suddenly had to pay several hundred % more to watch what they watched last season for X? You bet they would...

Re: BBC / Sky Sports

I am totally opposed to this Sky/BBC rip-off. It is NOT (IMHO) intended to do anything except make more money for Bernie's employers.

BUT: I pay about $65-$75 per month to watch F1 (the billing is VERY complicated). I used to get Autosport by airmail. Had to drop it -- too expensive. I used to drink single malt scotch. Now I drink (cheap but pretty good) bourbon. I want a Ferrari -- badly. I drive a 1998 Nissan. I always dreamt of following the F1 circuit for one year. I gave up that dream to raise a fsamily and help my children succeed. My point: you shape your life by the decisions you make. If you really love F1, you'll make the sacrifices necessary to watch it live. If you're really a serious fan, you'll pay the price. It's your choice, but do remember: Bernie and his employers would not give you their p*ss if you were on fire. You are NOTHING to them unless you have financial clout.
