Aston Martin AMR25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Larger front brake cooling ducts. The only modification for Montreal, yesterday when I checked the FIA website. Today it turns out they've modified the front wing. We'll see the race pace.
After Quali, the car goes into "parc fermé". They can't change any to any new parts. They can only replace like for like parts. If they change with other parts, they start from pit lane.

Yeah, but yesterday or Friday... maybe Thursday night (sorry, I'm a bit of a Dracula) I looked at the FIA to see what modifications AM would present in Montreal. I wanted them to include some modification to the front suspension, you know: everyone has their obsessions.

But it only said that as a specific modification for Montreal they would be installing larger cooling ducts for the front brakes. Nothing more.

Just before looking at your photo with the big smile, I found another apparently serious one also reporting that the front wing has been modified.

Maybe they used an older wing?

I hadn't thought of that option

If they took for example a wing design from 2024 or early 2025, and reinforced the carbon to pass the new tests, but it looked the same, would they not need to declare it as new?

Good question but we don’t know if the Front Wing they used earlier in the year wouldn't pass the new test. Remember they knew about the new FIA FW test for a while now. Also, the new FW tests is to prevent a certain kind of flexing. We don’t know if AM F1 was even doing any of that flexing.

I saw in FP2, Alonso having problems in turn 10. He was getting oversteer. I also know they made some suspension changes in FP2 and it made it worse. In FP3 and quali, the oversteer was gone. Changing the FW with one with less DF might get better balance.

The "mistake" Alonso made in turn 10, on tge final run on Mediums, was that he went a little deep/carried too much speed into 10. Which I understand, the previous run was on softs and he nailed it. Anyways, just saying, it wasn't oversteer.
