A huge crime is having empty stands in Korea, Turkey, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Bahrain and probably India and Rusia in the future.

A crime like the hundred persons attending to David Coulthards demo with the Red Bull in the streets of Austin, TX. For the same event there where 1 million persons in BsAs...

A crime is to try to push in the head of people something they dont want nor like nor understand.

To be fair, that wasn't a demo. Red Bull shot some promo footage in Austin and 100 people just happened to show up.

But, that does somewhat point to the biggest "crime" in F1: Formula 1 is almost completely insulated from popular opinion because of the way FOM collects money from tracks, TV networks, etc. The economic model in F1 has stripped from its fans their power of the purse, which is all consumers really have to voice their opinions in a meaningful way. It doesn't matter if 1 person watches/attends a grand prix or if 1,000,000 watch/attend; Bernie collects the same pound of flesh.

Empty stands would be a thing of the past if all of that empty space actually meant something.

Speaking of which, I would love to see all 24 cars without any sponsor logos. Just the manufacturer insignia and nothing more.

On behalf of Ireland I apologize but we didn't realize how big a nut he was. he went on to do this during the Olympic games.

Then as per your definition

Crime is Germany having only 60,000 fans in the stands when their drivers filled up quarter of the grid

Crime is having a Grand Prix at Barcelona which has had an outstanding zero overtaking record

Crime is also running a Grand Prix at a fish market of Valencia

Since when did Singapore GP ever have empty stands on Sat and Sun? I always thought the past GP are all sold out?

I think the biggest crime is how formula 1 is transported to the public just as spectacle and the true fascination of it in terms of strategies and technologies features only as a sideline .
I´m disguted by ex F1 drivers earning money by speaking out utter nonsense live on TV and repeating the same useless junk week after week .

Add to this Mr.Ecclestone ignoring the fact that time has moved on and the opportunities now available could quickly open the windows for the fans to get a deeper look into it and getting drawn in ..all for the good of the sport .

I´m still waitng and hoping for a team pulling out all stops .

Not really a crime but I recently wondered about the popularity of F1.
Have you ever tried to find a bar where you can watch F1 when you are in holidays? I had that problem last couple weeks and passed by several bars where TVs where running all showing football or even worse some showed billiard, tennis or cycling.
How on earth can a billiard game be more exciting than a F1 race???? That's totally beyond my understanding.

Half the spectators are in buildings watching.

I agree, but we are just getting old. The first televised sporting event was the beginning of the end.
There is a (not so) new reality. For christ's sake I saw Jimi Hendrix in concert for $3.50  I think young people through no fault of their own can't grasp the concept of athletes main motivation at one time was simply for the fame, and the fun at the opportunity of being paid for playing sports and getting paid for doing things because they enjoy them. I relish my experiences when the world of pro sports, and entertainment was a lot simpler. But that time has passed. In the immortal words of Joni Mitchell "We have to get ourselves back to the garden" (and we all know that is not going to happen)
I also like this metaphor that applies to/contrasts the (not so) new reality

Ha ha ha I remember that event. You need not apologize for Ireland. On the flip side, I don't apologise for all the dumb-ass $hit my rapidly evolving police state does.

I'm gonna take a different tack on this... I'm not going to go with simply something I dislike, but instead, some wilful endangerment of people's lives. The biggest crime in F1 was Alonso's crash in Brazil after not slowing for double waved yellows.

Here's my top 5:

5. What they did to Hockenheim.

4. The wide front wings and narrow back wings. Yes, we all got used to it. Yes, it still looks silly.

3. The never ending changes to qualifying formats and technical regulations.

2. The Honda F1 "earth-car" and the "Luckies/555" B.A.R. F1 cars.
