Because their goal is not to produce something good/useful... it's to produce something that extracts lots of money from you.

And make it look like you need it, like it offers something more.

I mean seriously, you think that Sky is gonna open a whole new channel just to broadcast F1 on that once in the 2 weeks? It seems like you got a great deal, but you stil need the standard subscription to be able to have the channel. Afaik the channel is just an addition which costs you 10.25 per month more. You must be a Bill Gates or something to afford that.

if you want to have a subscription to watch F1 via the sky HD package , what is the total cost ?
if I understand correctly from this you will have to pay £20/month basic subscription plus £10/month for HD ie £30/month or £360 pa or £36/race

will be interesting to see if the BBC have the best races [ I'm not into getting up in the middle of the night ]
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

If the race is worth watching afterwards I'll just download it afterwards. nor Sky nor BBC is getting my view/money.

This is insane. The FIA, teams, drivers, sponsors, race organizers and media make a profit out of F1 and now we're expected to pay for watching it as well? I am not willing to pay a single penny to Sky, and I am not willing to watch half the races on BBC. It's either online or no more F1 for me. I might as well get the game on PS3 and race myself instead!

PS. Interesting view on piracy by a major developer's CEO, for those who claimed watching F1 online through unofficial channels is piracy, and as such should be condemned:

I'll be going down the RTL route, my plan is to use 5Live commentary, it's just a shame that won't include Crofty next year...

It's not ideal, but I want to see the races live, and more importantly, i want to see all races in FULL - not highlights.

Unfortunately, being right in the north of scotland, I doubt I'll be able to pick up RTL :(

Most of you probably already know this, but didn't Sky Germany end up giving up their coverage because the viewing stats were crap compared to that of RTL? Can't remember where I saw it, but surely if the same thing happened here Sky would relinquish it..?

Even though I don't pay for a TV license, I don't understand the point in paying for something in which you have no input on what's on.. That'd be like paying for a meal and getting something completely different to what you ordered. o. o

I should take my 'a lot of' back.. It's the same clip repeated but any F1 footage at this pre season time is welcome by me!

How does this work outside of the UK? It is my understanding that the FIA broadcast a world feed which is what we get here in Australia on free-to-air, but the Australian broadcast used to get the BBC commentary. So - will the Australian broadcast be able to buy the rights to the Sky commentary, or will they have to do their own (as the BBC will only cover half the races)?
