A list of all the drivers that ran in the 2011 Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test is at the following link:

http://www.crash.net/f1/results/174975/ ... bined.html

Are you or anyone going to suggest that every single driver that did a lap during that test are the best of the best that didn't have money behind them? Your comments about Susie Wolf can be applied to any of these drivers.

The tie up between Susie and her husband is a bit suss, but it's really matter of non-importance in the grand scheme of things.

Some people seam to be forgetting that Schumacher got in F1 when Mercedes paid $150,000 to Jordan for his drive...

yeah, not the brightest idea hiring mediocre looking and driving Susie Stoddard as Williams driver... :wtf:
Sounds more like a waste of resources and nepotism (or love)instead of a clever Marketing.
A very cheap shot which will offend any true Williams fan.
Instead there are guys like Robert Wickens in DTM that really deserve a place in an F1. I know Bottas is the real Williams test driver but, still that Susie Stoddard headline is hard to digest, yuck!
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

She has virtually no future in F1 which is why it is unfortunate that she will be at the young drivers test, and I wouldn't expect her to offer great technical feedback considering her inexperience in open wheelers. All the drivers from the test last year have at least won races in open wheel racing series and are young (except Paffet/Charouz). It's not good publicity to field a very inexperienced woman who is married to one of the shareholders as it is very contrived.

I don't believe this is sexist by any nature, and i am sure many want-to-be f1 drivers share Racer D's sentiments.

In my eyes, making money is great for Formula 1, but this just has bad taste written all over it.

So like always, its not just what you know, its who you know....

But people were saying Maldonado would be no good, Bruno Senna would be no good, Sergio Perez would be no good, etc. They have all proved themselves to be pretty good.

So I will not judge until there is something to judge. There is little harm in her doing sim and straight line testing and the opportunity to make one test. She might not get the test if her sim work shows her to be slow.

As for her looks, mediocre is a little harsh. The fact is most people would marry a woman like that in a heart beat. The fact she races cars and is in tip top shape makes her a near dream woman for anyone who likes pretty girls and racing cars.

Also, when you look at her google image search, she is almost always in a race suit, and little makeup. Her 'model' photos are classy and she is dressed in them

Looking at Danica Patrick, her google image search is 36 images on page 1, and only three of them are in racing attire or regular clothes. The rest are skin and hair blowing shots.

+1

A) other drivers are also paying to get a seat
B) the gender of the driver is not defining the quality

Its not about being a fan, its about someone calling her looks mediocre which makes me wonder the comparison.

My point was not 'oh wow' it was that she a racer first and a woman second. It appears to be what she wants to be known as, since she isn't running around in a bikini trying to sell me a web domain.

I compared to Patrick because half the reason she is popular is the skin she shows for the NASCAR crowd.

Is it just me or cant anyone understand his point?

He clearly says Susie Wolff isnt f1 material, why?
These are her DTM results, in a field of around 18 drivers;

2006 Mucke Motorsports 0 pts
2007 Mucke Motorsports 0 pts
2008 Persson Motorsports 0 pts
2009 Persson Motorsports 0 pts
2010 Persso Motorsports 4pts 13th
2011 Persson Motorsports 0pts

So she scored 4 points in 61 races she has competed in.

I think it says enough about how well qualified she is for Formula 1.

she did achieve 3 podiums in formula renault UK, with a 5th place championship finish at some point. Maybe touring cars isn't her thing. Even coulthard only has 2 points from 2 years of racing in DTM.

Be careful with those stats. From wiki:
In 2006 .... achieved 6 wins out of the 2004-spec cars.
She led her class in 6 races out of 10, but got no points. Of course I don't know how many people were in her class ;)

as far as i can find out she never won any races even in her karting days, i dont see why a driver like that is even in DTM apart from not beeing a bloke nothing makes her stand out
