Rubbish. Webber clearly is hogging the seat, with no opportunity for Rubens to play.

I've said it before in other threads and had my competitiveness and intelligence questioned, but drivers today are more than willing to put each other in situations that you either crash or you get bullied out of the way. Side by side racing has gotten to the point where drivers today will simply drive one another over the lines and curbs because "it's their corner" and other nonsense. It exists in every racing series worldwide with the exception of motorcycle racing. Those guys give each other more room on average than any other series. Is it wrong? I think so. But I'm not a professional driver so my opinion isn't all that valid. I'd like to see guys dive down the inside and then not simply drive their line like the other guy didn't exist. Clean passes are more entertaining than watching someone get forced into a situation, even if being overtaken, where they have to lift completely to avoid banging over kerbs or get tossed into the gravel. Wheel to wheel is good racing, "taking your line" and driving someone out onto the outside of a track and putting them at a safety risk should be diminished in my opinion. I am staunchly against rules being written to stop it though, like Alonso says it should be respect amongst the drivers that causes the attitudes and behavior change.

On the friendly driver front outside the car, that has nothing to do with eras or any such other nonsense. It's chemistry and you can't force that. If they don't want to hang out with one another that's life. Plus they have a TON of outside commitments and can't party with the boys. I think NHRA drag racing has the most camaraderie of all series though. Those guys will literally build a competitors car if they have to. I've seen it enough times to know those guys are there to race and see good racing.

Villeneuve. Arnoux. How many times does each run off the track?

First of all. What you are describing is an individual issue.
Then you have to look at the circumstances involving the two drivers and why the collision happened etc.

Taking the line is an ok move if the other guy is not side by side with you.
Look at how Webber closed the door on Kimi in China, or what happens when you don´t give in (Grosjean/Maldonado - Australia)

When drivers are racing side by side they will give each other room.
When someone just sticks in their nose that´s usually when --- happens.

Not sure either your assessment of it not existing in Motorcycle racing, you should ask what Stoner and Lorenzo feels about Rossi´s overtaking moves or contacts he´s had with them.

Oh and you should ask the whole field what they thought of Simoncelli, notorious driver when it came to that stuff.

It´s all individual no matter what form of racing it is.

I'm not goin back over a couple of years of interviews to pluck out examples .. but they have said they don't hang out together ..never talk away from the track...except for a couple of rare exceptions....believe what you will I don't care.

Could you provide one example at least?

The interview quotes i posted are from Webber and he named 5 guys he get along with very well.

Most of the guys seem to get along well. You can´t expect them to be best friends forever though as everyone in this world skips to a different beat.

the people who become friends skips to a similar beat.

No i don´t.

It´s just that you have created a thread with a quote that isn´t about what you are talking about and you haven´t showed us even one interview to support your claim.

The rest of us have showed quite a lot that support the contrary.

But outside the team garage, 21-year-old Vergne is not hoping to make friends in formula one.

“With Daniel and I it’s going well, we’ve known each other for a long time,” he told the L’Equipe sports daily.

“He is someone I get along well with and it’s a pleasure to work with [him].

“We can be friends, but otherwise it’s impossible to be friends with the F1 drivers — unless you know you will be always in first place with the best car.

“For me, it’s inconceivable to be friends with someone you want to beat,” added Vergne.
.
Adrian Sutil is frank, funny and as unpretentious as they come.

A special guest at the TOI office on Thursday, the Formula One driver spoke and laughed with abandon. No topic was off limit and no answers cryptic. He doesn't shy away from calling Formula One full of 'tigers and sharks' and a world where friends don't really exist.

"There aren't very many friends in Formula One. I've raced with Lewis Hamilton earlier, so we know each other. We take holidays together and don't live too far away, just 90 minutes away from each other. It's a nice relationship but then that's just Lewis and me.

"Everybody respects each other but there is a distance because everybody wants to win. You don't want to think to yourself, 'Oh I don't want to bang into him because he's my friend.
.
I guess that's why drivers aren't that friendly.
.
Vettel on recers being friends..
I just melt when they are calling each other friends so leave me
.
Nico :
Who is your best friend among the drivers?

I don't have one.
.
Heikki Kovalainen ..
Speaking of the other driver, how are you getting on with your new team mate?

I've seen him briefly and he seems fine.
There are more.
The drivers in general are not friends.

I don't know if there is less respect nowadays or not. Anyway they appear to get along well with each other.

As odd a pairing they might have seemed, James Hunt and Ronnie Peterson great friends, often socializing off the track.
When Ronnie rejoined Lotus for the 1978 seson, among the first things he and Barbro did was visiting Mario in Nazareth.

I doubt if anything like that is happening today.
