I don't agree. It's all about the money: Closer title race = more coverage = more money. I definitely wouldn't put it past Bernie and co. (FIA etc.). Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one.

However, I personally do think that there was enough debris on the track to grant a safety car.

I warned everyone. We have yet to see the true Vettel.
He is starting to show his true colours this year. If the Ferrari or Mclaren are outright faster later on in the season, expect toys out the pram from finger boy.

What does that even mean, "true Vettel"?

Is Lewis Hamilton an immensely gifted and magnanimous person, as he appears in the best of times, or is he the Crown Prince of Sulk, as he appears when fortune's not on his side? What about Alonso? Is he a master of adaptation or a spoiled child who doesn't play well with others? Is Schumacher a ruthless bastard who's willing to break every rule or is he a definition of stoicism who's unwilling to even so much as hint at anything less than full support of his team?

People are people, and everything we see counts one way or another. And we also shouldn't forget that everything we see is a reflection of these people at work. I don't know anyone who's the same person from 9 to 5 as they are from 5:01 to 8:59.

This is the TRUE Schumacher!!!! Yes you have it right! Schumacher is Machiavellian.

Alonso, is more human. He knows when not to cross certain lines. I believe the true Alonso has already shown himself.

I am of the beleif, and I have been taught this by an elder dorm mate back in University.... That you only see a man's true self when he is frustrated.

Here is a story..
A distraught man approached the Zen master. "Please, Master, I feel lost, desperate. I don't know who I am. Please, show me my true self!" But the teacher just looked away without responding. The man began to plead and beg, but still the master gave no reply. Finally giving up in frustration, the man turned to leave. At that moment the master called out to him by name. "Yes!" the man said as he spun back around. "There it is!" exclaimed the master.
So you see, We have seen glimpses, but not the full picture of the true Vettel.

Agreed. What people sometimes ignore is that people are multidimensional, and they are about as multi-faceted as people get. People tend to get overly stuck in the rut of viewing people as "bad" or "good" - and from that point on, after they've made judgment on said person - it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as their mind constantly self-rationalises their choice.

I understand your point. I just think it's misguided.

Sebastian Vettel is a 24-year-old kid who's far more familiar with incredible levels of success than he is with average results, much less outright failure. It's only natural then that he look for something or someone to blame when the demons of reality occasionally reveal themselves. But, he will learn that sometimes sh_t happens.

That's called experience.

For his sake, I hope we never get a true view of Vettel as a person, because everyone deserves privacy.

Hollywood Formula 1? If you're not one of the good guys you gotta be one of the bad guys?

I hope its a probation and should he provide another dramatic dummy spit if it should happen again, then possibly he should be fined/penalised for putting the sport into disrepute.

There are young kart racers who watch Formula 1 and they don't need to see a driver like Vettel or anyone for that matter in F1 jumping out of their car, throwing their gloves and then having a dummy spit in an interview "alluding" to a "false" Conspiracy...if there was such a thing as collusion etc...then lets roll back to 2010 and 2011...I never heard the Mclaren drivers, Ferrari etc saying that Red Bull were leading a "conspiracy" with the FoM/FIA to control and dominate 2011 plus also the safey cars during 2010...its silly.

He needs to sit in the naughty corner for a minute or two to think and remember that he is a two time world champion, some kids see him as a role model and he needs to learn to tidy up his PR skills...
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

There's a lot of things you accuse Vettel of but untidy PR skills? The man is a marketers wet dream.

my apologies #-o shouldn't have commented at 3 in the morning when my sense of judgement was at an all time low

anyway.... the way i see it its simply human of vettel to show frustration.... i'll only find it a major behavioural issue if he keeps this up for the whole season or indeed his whole career.... and FIA are over reacting.... hamilton threw his steering wheel after the crash with Maldonado didn't he?.... when they go from pure adrenaline rush of racing to the frustration of sitting in a stationary car, its bound to show..... and as for that conspiracy theory..... who knows what really happened?.. though all he can do for now is accept reality and move on... am sure Vettel will be back to his chirpy self in Silverstone
money makes the cars go round
engines are there just for the sound
V10.......V8.......V6....... V none
And that's the story of Formula 1

To me there are two different events here:
1. He gets out of the car & throws his gloves down. No problem to me. Dissapointment & Anger are valid emotions just like Happiness and Delight. I see no reason why he should be condemned for being angry.
2. What he said in the interview - his conspiracy theory is childish. That Marko could support him in that is astonishing. Really supports some of the stuff I have read about him (Marko).

The only thing I would say that Vettel did wrong was shooting his mouth off about the safety car being intentionally deployed to ruin his race. The throwing the gloves is a non-issue. I'd be pretty frustrated myself if I was in his situation. But the other situation, he has been around F1 long enough to know better. Yes he is only 24, but he has a lot of experience that other 24 year olds do not have.

I know someone who worked at a senior level for several years in F1 teams. He made a joke a couple of years ago in similar circumstances about a safety car being brought out to make it interesting. I asked him if he was joking and he said "no, Bernie's hand will have been in there somewhere"...

I'm not sure if you are just calling him young or childish here, but either way ... 24 year old kid? He's hardly inexperienced at life.

That said, I suggest that anybody so rich at his age is a complete strop-throwing diva, regardless of whether they are racing cars or singing (someone else's) songs ;) So used to getting everything their own way ...
Yer.
