Why?

The FOM do not have a contract with the circuits for the other 51 weekends in the year.

I would be very doubtful the poison dwarf has contracts that can dicate to the circuit owners what they do with their property every other weekend of the year.

Yep, I'd rather watch FOTA GP than FIAsco's F1 anyday

Beware the evil twins. Back when CART was growing, they went outside of the USA. When they tried to set up a race in Australia, the powers in Formula One expressed their displeasure because F1 was already racing in Australia. The first CART race in Australia was 1991. The last race by Formula One in the USA (before it's rebirth at Indy) was 1991. Coincidence, I think not. You poach on what they consider their territory, and expect retaliation.
Track owners are not stupid, and aware of this little piece of history. If a track currently running Formula One allows a direct competitor to race, expect to lose the F1 licence.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

Which wouldn't actually matter in this instance since F1 as we know it now would cease to exist.

If they can have the races, then it would replace F1 as the premier series in the world.

(and if F1 did somehow survive, its bargaining position would have been considerably weakened)

It's all well and good if you have the right people to run it. remember F1 before Bernie, it was a mess. Teams did not turn up for all races, some teams didi not recognise some event's, and sometimes they were not paid, TV coverage was nil, so less sponsors. Before you get rid of Max and Bernie, ensure you have the correct people te replace them with.

That was then - now, the F1 teams would get adequate people in and would do a very good job of promoting Formula One.

Excellent point. But there's a flip side if you will: excellent tracks that do not an F1 race (Silverstone and Indy pop to mind) or have been threatened with the loss of F1 would be excellent candidates.

Good point. They HAVE done some good. (Though I'm personally not sure the good outwieghs the bad!)

Replace Max and Bernie? -- without making reference to two shaved monkeys -- F1 is now big time and has outgrown its roots. Big budgets, global-level sponsors, mega exposure, etc. That may be a mixed blessing, but F1 now needs top quality business minds, with a solid grasp of global branding (no, Max, we're not talking about hot irons here) advertising, product placement, audience demographics and psychographics, professional PR (a good PR guy would muzzle Bernie). Enough. You get the point. In terms of global business, Max and Bernie are what Enzo called "garagists"

wouldnt it be more practicle, and realistic, to have an alternative candidate put up for election later this year...standing on a mandate of reform?
max will stand again, we all know that, but they really should get together and find someone to put their support behind as an alternative to the pityful status quo

Yes, however the breakaway could be a "nuclear option".

at this point i feel as if all the good the evil twins could do has been done, and of late have been much more damaging than constructive to f1. that said, i agree with the post regarding that the fota would still need a 3rd party to officiate to be run effectively, max and bernie are getting old so hopefully they'll just retire soon, and perhaps the fota will have more of a say regarding who gets installed into these power intensive positions

If all the teams currently in FOTA flipped Mad Max & the evil Dwarf the bird and started a new series hell yeah I would watch it, but they'd better right the current wrongs or it would be another CART!
