Since rest of the aspects are covered above, i will add one thing: broadcast.

I'm enhancing my experience watching the live timing, trying to understand what exactly is happening on the track. My wife gets bored to death, but if I'm trying to explain her why somebody is in front and soon is pitting, why all of the sudden somebody is putting fast lap times, why somebody after a tire change is losing tenths, then she is starting to make sense of it. Commentary is essential, and in Romania we have the crappiest guys ever (they are so dumb that still confusing the drivers and speaking over 'team radio' and then saying ..."it was a lot of noise")

So, better broadcast, better graphics (c'mo, we are in HD era already), better technical info.... and a parrade like H-ring can make sense...

thats a clever way to trick your wife so she lets you watch F1 on TV. I love it, I will do the same when soccer on TV.

I have to agree there, I struggle to watch Qualifying without the live timing nowadays and it does add another level to races for me.

I'm not so sure we are ever going to see side-by-side racing as some people are talking about, now at the speeds the cars do now. You'd have to slow everything down to fit two cars in to alot of corners, otherwise they'll just understeer out on the exits.

There are some drivers who are much better overtaking than others. Button & Barrichello for example. Button seems to be able to overtake in just a few attempts if he doesn't get it the first time. Barrichello on the over hand does alot of ducking and diving, and makes contact alot more. Lewis has always impressed me, his style reminds me alot of Montoya who I was always supremely impressed with when it came to wheel to wheel overtaking.

Funny how no one ever mentions what makes a GP exciting.

Take away the 2009 front wings, replace them with the 2008 front wings. Take away the DDDs from 09 and replace them with the diffusers of the 08 cars. Leave everything else the same on the cars.

Lack of grip creates closer racing, thats what i enjoy about watching GP2 and other lower formule.

There are a number of reasons:

- Post-qualifying parc fermé. The driver with the fastest race pace is starting from pole position.
- Pit stops. Due to the existence of pit stops drivers don't need to do risky on-track passing attempts.
- Aerodynamics. The aerodynamics still make cars to lose too much grip and changes the balance too much.
- Standard components. The introduction of standard components made the cars more equal, resulting in more equal lap times. That's bad for racing. Instead of having equal paces over one lap, equal pace over one race distance is needed for good racing.

No aggression, no fun.
No passing is boring either regardless of how fast a driver is, no point in closing in and then not passing.
For Sure!!

It took a few seconds but then I realized how brilliant these statements are. #-o
I was always offended when there was a senseless punishment for a driver or a team.
For me they are killing racing, because the drivers can't try to overtake anymore because they would risk a punishment when they will touch the other car by accident.
But it is no wonder there are so much punishments when there is a FIA president who likes to get torture by some Nazi-whores.

+1, I dont get why people diss nascar with their phantom cautions. It makes the racing exciting when the cars are spread out. Safety car rules need to be changed also because that whole safety car dives to the pits and drivers go all out thing gets them separated too much. They need a specific restart marker or wait until a marshal flags them.
