Just been reading on the Stig case on the BBC and all... and that reminded me of Top Gear's "in a reasonably priced car" gig. What I meant was something like that. Just to see which driver was fastest in the same car. Whether or not the results are representative are irrelevant to me... it's just some good fun

I'm not gonna sit here and trash your idea, because its not a bad idea. But F1 sponsors, team owners, and teams put too much money into development, etc. to race in a spec race.I think your idea is a good thing to do in the offseason, not actually during the F1 world championship, but it would be a good way to see world class talent going head to head with equal cars!

while it is a bit unlikely to happen now or in the near future, it has been done in the past.
In 1979/80 there was an BMW M1 race (ProCar) at the Grand Prix´s with some of the top F1 drivers taking part.

What made the original M1 Procar Series interesting was the competition between five Formula 1 drivers plus the remaining field, made up of 15 young "up-and-comers."

Surer, now a TV commentator for Formula 1, said the young drivers felt they had made their mark once they got to drive in one of the races.

“It was a unique opportunity to pit your skills against the F1 drivers – and they were certainly pretty quick in the M1. The handling of the mid-engined car suited them down to the ground. Plus, in 1979 – the first of the two years the series was held – they always started from the front and were given works cars. That made it pretty tough for us junior drivers in the independent teams. We had to look after our car, but at the same time did everything we could to make our mark," Surer said.

At the re-opening of the Nürburgring in 1984 there was a race in Mercedes 190E 2.3 16V cars, with most of the F1 drivers.
This race was finally won by Ayrton Senna.

Porsche Supercup with the F1 drives, would be pretty cool - IMHO

That would be really cool.
Like someone else said, reminds me of IROC, which was very fun to watch even though they races at superspeedways. I think it would be awesome to watch on Grand Prix Road Courses!
