I once had a driver ,very quick old hand.multiple kart champ now in his early 50s..it was almost impossible to motivate him to squeeze the car in Qualy.His answer was: hey i´m going to overtake these two wankers in front of me before the end of lap one...
I started to call him a girl and put silly high lap times and P20signs on the pitboard to embarass him..but he delivered come race day.
That w01 was not worthy of a win and I think that is the sort of motivation a seasoned hero is not so good at coping with.He still got a lot of fun out of it having scraps with everyone...but he realised it would never be enough to challenge for a win.
