Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it just me or they effectively reverted to the late MP4-24 rear end design?

The big question is would they make that change so without you suggesting that?

well, those new cooling holes do actually make the downsloping sidepods useless as it has to go up again. Not actually the best place to place cooling holes if you ask me

Lewis in the car, let the good times roll. Button is a good drive, but not a scrach on Hamilton! I think the car will start "ok", and they will do there normal trick of finding 0.5secs just as they get to Europe, by which time they will spend the rets of the season catching up, and then half way thru the FIA will find a reason to ban them...

Button makes it sound like it is an upgrade rather than a spec solution for the high temps of Bahrain... I wonder if we will continue to see this exhaust setup past the early hot races and in China or Spain. I certainly liked the launch version better... but if it dont work than you gotta fix it.

I´m still a bit confused about the sidepod shapes evloving recently, and do not really understand why they do slope down as they do.this surely must lead to generating lift in that area and it must be a huge gain in redirecting flow towrds difusser exit and lower beam wing to compensate.
Taken the other way round and doing it a bit more like lotus with a flattish upper surface of the sidepod and a deep undercut to open a ways for the air to access the lower wingprofile could be a more df oriented sidepodshape at the expense of increased licked outer suface area of course...adding drag.

Just a thought, check out how the exhaust housing/cooling holes slope upwards. Could they effectively work a little bit like the old sweeps on pre-2009 cars? (dunno if I've made myself clear about what I mean lol!)

The pre-2009 sweep-ups were more to do with directing air over/around the rear tyres. The exhaust shroud design on the -25 is just about getting air out of the rear of the car in an efficient manner.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Not sure about new gloves but we haven't seen the gills in those vents before I don't think ?

Also, looking past Lewis, there isn't a huge amount of space there - this thing of the snorkel having tubing up to the airbox just doesn't fly imho.

The long run today was certainly impressive.

Could the shape of the new exhaust outlets in the bodywork act like the flipups of former years?

Is there now a large triangular outlet blowing air from the fin onto the rear wing?
