Im really looking forward to see how Costa, Bell and Willis improve Mercedes...

One thing, how much Willis is really good?...i mean he's obviously good since Brawn singed him...but strange fact when i look at his wiki info...he was never part of one stronger F1 team...midfield at his best.

To be fair aduka - he was at Red Bull in 2009 - though he was more a QC manager than a design guy. Which is one of the reasons he left - he felt underused.

It almost now looks as if he wasn't really responsible after all.........
In all fairness now, considering his short time with AMG, I doubt if he had that much influence over the W03. Moreover,
I think it would be foolish to write off Ferrari already, I have a distinct feeling that Pat Fry might be sandbagging quite a bit.

Also; the problems Ferrari have had in 2011 vs 2012; to be fair; are opposite extremes. An overly-conservative car that can't get heat into the tyres; vs an overly-radical car that is chewing its tyres. The problems Ferrari had (in terms of car) are sort of gone as Aldo Costa is - just that they've been replaced by newer problems now

Not going to write off Ferrari, but Fry wouldnt be talking about "forgetting about podiums" if they werent in some sort of difficulties.
Costa will hate the weather in Brackley, I'm sure. But he's going to love his current position...Only when the updates come on strong from around May onwards will we know whether Ferrari have fouled up even more than is being anticipated.
I always got the impression Ferrari wanted a scapegoat and ran out of ideas as to whom was responsible.

Ferrari's loss Mercedes gain from initial impressions.
More could have been done.

Which I think is a foregone conclusion, when did Aldo Costa start at AMG anyway, two month ago? Don't think he had much to do with the W03 really, I think this is Bob Bell's car with some aerodynamic influence from Geoff Willis which delayed it.

Jet ,I worked in that area till last year and if anything you would not work there for the weather you experience there....it´s either cold and rainy or hot like an exploded oiltank nearby....Costa will adapt well to brackleys climate.

I posted before on Willis' credentials in the pre-launch speculation thread here.

Also I think you are mistaken in thinking he was never part of a stronger F1 team, he was Newey's Chief Aerodynamicist in the Williams domination era in the 90s. And as noted above, designed the BAR006 which was the 2nd fastest car behind the beast we know as the F2004.

In Bell and Willis, Mercedes have assembled formidable aerodynamic expertise.

Would you dare to say that after saying that in 2010 and 2011?

Thank you for pointing that out. I was going to say Willis was the Newey of that era. Brawn sort of put the band back together with this group.

I don't think it would be that far fetched if I were to dare say Merc could bag a podium in a couple weeks.

Probably not, but I'm betting Geoff Willis has taken a red pen to a lot of what that team was doing before. That's why I think the car was late. My point was that I'm not bigging up Aldo Costa, just that I think Ferrari's problems go deeper than just personnel.
Moreover, I think it would be foolish to write off Ferrari already, I have a distinct feeling that Pat Fry might be sandbagging quite a bit.
They could be, but it is a very, very funny way to sandbag and their times don't look as if they're hiding a great deal. There's not a great deal to look at that indicates they're going to be fine in a week.
