Based on hamilton's current run, 2.2kg of fuel use per lap, and 0.4 seconds per 10kg of fuel, we now know that Merc can do at least a 1:22.0.

Edit: He was on hards too, so they could do at least a 1:21.0 in qually. 1.2 seconds better than last year's pole time isn't bad.

What's the average difference between the medium and hard compound around Catalunya?

They're clearly not. If Merc can do a 1:21.0 (which we've established they should be able to), then RBR are still well off their max pace.

Hamilton's 1.22.726 is on the hard tyre, whereas Vettel's 1.22.197 was done on the soft tyres.
Vettel's fast lap on the hards was 1.22.922.

I'm kind of shocked by that improvement in performance, that is a massive step forward for merc. I wonder how much the RB Mc and Fer have improved. We are of course assuming that Merc has shown their hand but the other 3 big guys have not, which I am not sure is the case.

How much more can improve Hamilton's fastest lap by DRD?

It can improve another 7 tenths by not having fuel on board – he went on to do another 7 laps.

You never know what the rest of the field is doing, but Merc is definitely making progress.

Well, I did say at least, so there's no assumption in there that Merc have shown their hand, they might be able to go faster than a 1:21.0.
RB, the best knowledge we have is that vettel could do a 1:22.3 on hards, so we know they can do at least a 1:21.3.
McLaren Checo did a 1:22.7 on hards, with 4 extra laps of fuel at least on board, so again, that's a 1:21.3 at least.
Ferrari we don't really have any data on.

I would suggest that all of these estimates are at least half a second off the absolute maximum performance any of these teams can do, as none of them will have turned the engine up to max in testing, I'd also suggest that McLaren and RedBull probably have some more left in them at least.
