Did anyone look at Danny Ric’s Q1 lap? Did he make a mistake somewhere?

Happy for Carlos too. He just needs to match or beat Charles. That’s the race for him.
Corner entry into T14 was bad, lost the rear on turn in and slid for a split second and had to put in a bit of opposite lock, then it flinched again approaching the exit curb. Also saw on the graphic he was slower than Norris by 2 tenths in T5 alone.

Without that moment Max would be on pole so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. Let's see if Bottas pushes Max off track again on turn 3 like last year and helps out his teammate.

Just so that everyone knows: the time by Max that got deleted was a 1:18.209 which would have comfortably put him on pole despite the mistake and time loss in corner 4 ... so i really dunno where the "Merc is clearly the faster car" stuff comes from, maybe it is on the medium but not on the soft.

He had a lockup but it looked like he was losing some time everywhere because that mistake wasn't worth the entire second.
Have you seen the score board?

I guess its better to pretend that Hamilton is driving a mid-field car to podiums... :wtf:   Apparently, the 1'17".9s lap on mediums from Lewis in Q2 is slower than Max's deleted 1'18".2 on softs... =D>

Unfortunately, his "not so good" first attemp during Q2 has forced him to start the race with the softs, which is a great disadvantage in this track.

A no so exciting qualy this time, Mercedes looked faster during all the sessions so I was expecting a pole from them, but Bottas has surprised me. Mercedes is clearly faster with the medium so I expect them to build a gap during the first sting, which could be enough to win the race, unless Max has a great start and overtake at least Lewis.

The Merc is definitely faster in Portimao, but RB was definitely faster in Bahrain (considered a power track). Also, another Honda team in AlphaTauri was so fast in Bahrain but in Portimao almost a second off, it is either the Merc is faster on these high DF tracks like Portimao and Imola or they just have had some very good upgrades since Bahrain. Just my speculation there I am not sure. However, they do look neck and neck on the race pace sims from Friday practice according to analysis articles I read on the formula 1 website and gpblog.

This track needs tyre experience so no way Yuki would just up an beat Pierre today. Good effort by him otherwise to keep things clean.

It's a good thing none of these statements have any finality to them, but the season is long. Somehow Vettel flipped the tables on his teammate Stroll. Well done to Vettel - Q3 has been a long time coming for him.

Medium tyres faster lol what a farce.

Yeah so, Bottas is on pole and Max starts behind him on the clean side of the track. Let's see how it plays out.

RUS needs to have a great Sunday from that position. Couldn’t have asked for a better Sat.
Hopefully, he can score some points this time.

I do hope it can be a first step for his "comeback". He really need a good race, no problems and at least score a few points.

Maybe, but again Merc looked substantially better on the race tire.
