Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If that is to feed the diffuser, then it means that air flow is being accelerated above the floor as well as below the floor, is that not the opposite of what teams try to achieve with ground effects? That will decrease the difference in pressure from above to below the floor won't it??
I think it's a vein, the underside is closed off, so it's like a tunneled out part of the floor opening in what may be the side walls of the diffuser.
For Sure!!

As for the slot, yes it is a Diffuser feed and Ferrari have copied it.
yes I realize; but it can be closer still. Visually that floor wont touch the wheel if it moves even 3 inches up, and i don't think the suspension travel is that much.
Don't the rules preclude the floor closing the gap to the rear tyres? Or was that the last set of regs...?
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Amazing shots of the endplate, imightbewrong!! I wonder if they will ever race that more complex endplate that they ran in Barcelona. Or was it Jerez?

Interesting end plate changes .. now they've added a "roof" to it, presumably to increase the charge to wing ports. Kind of like the BMW end plates of last year, but wisely, much more modest, and with the wing ports there might be a basis for this to work.

I thought the initial BMW endplates were just an ugly bulky block at the end directing air outwards. And if I'm not mistaken they've used the roof as well already in Australia as I remember the McLarens having to "round" the edges off rather than being sharp so they don't work as tyre shredders.

Yeah, those were some simplistic and ugly endplates. At the end oft heir life though, they did open up some ports in them for the wings. I think that's how the last BMW configuration ended up. They did have a race or two without those boxes but went back to them for the last race of the year, all be it with the wing ports.

A bit off the topic of the McLarens here, but the end of year F1.09's had endplates not dissimilar to the C29

as much as I'd love to search through 130 pages to do with this car.

I was wondering, if the horizontal wing between the FW supports is new or has been there for a while. It's reminiscent of what Williams had last year.
The front camera pod are placed on it as well. very visible on lap 50 of 56 in Shanghai 2010.
