Advocate of the devil; The biggest deficit of the RB becomes apparent. It is the bumps, and wasn't it Newey who is the man behind the suspension?

Can I ask what ATR means?
Aero Testing Restriction

Thank you!

"It's quite clear this is their main issue, Imola confirmed their troubles setting up their car right on bumpy circuits. ATR is just a red herring, they are super efficient with aero development and literally never made mistakes with updates since at least 2009"

Is it really a correlation issue between the sim and the car or have RB made a car with an in built imperfection? Max was saying today that no setup change could fix it and its a fundamental issue..

If so, RB have spent all of last year working on ideas that don't work as they want and will be on the back foot now catching up to others who have nailed their design.

To me, it was only in Australia that the bumps/kerbs issue became apparent and RB updates were already designed and based on their car being great in these areas. Where does the team go now in regards to fixing things?

Maybe it has something to do with one of their front suspension front arms acting as a leaf spring. Maybe it's very stiff and can't be compensated enough now that McLaren and Ferrari are getting so close. It's been like this since RB18 I think, but last year there was such a big margin that it didn't show up as a real problem anywhere but Singapore.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

See what the race brings tomorrow. P5 shouldn't be too bad and hopefully an aggressive strategy might salvage a few more points.

What i'm not liking at the minute is the narrower window the car seems to want to be in for setup. Something that needs to be addressed pretty quickly. They seem to have some idea what it is as going into Saturday after Friday the cars improved.

Cant win them all.

Singapore weekend we can all book an AirBnb at the seaside lol

what are next circuits that can expose RB to this problem ? Canada a bit, then ? Baku ?

Canada has long straights which will cancel out weakness...
The stat points between an Online Forum and Real Life are inversely proportional...

Max said the next few circuits will be bumpy/kerby.

I think though that this year, the car is worse in the bumpy/kerby bits than last years car? I never saw Max make mistakes, complain about the lack of control in circuits other than Singapore... granted the competition was not near but I feel like this would have been apparent anyway. Also the simulator data should be the same and its not so somewhere, something has gone wrong.

Can anyone see in the telemetry where we were losing out in S2?

"In January of 2024, Marshall, a former Renault designer who is credited with evolving the team's innovative mass damper system that helped it to the 2005 and 2006 constructors' titles, will take up the post of technical director at McLaren"

RB lost Rob Marshall to Mclaren this year and he was great with innovation in regards to the mass damper system, maybe RB are missing his input a lot and if they can improve in this area, things could get better.

Could it be that with their concept they only could extract extra permance by narrowing the setup window? Then the collateral damage would be the low speed street circuits.

Max is clearly very critical of this aspect of the car being lacking. He's been wanting it improved for over 2 years. That it hasn't is indicative that the team is pursuing this performance window for other reasons. If we go back to typical circuit characteristics and McLaren and Ferrari are still close or ahead then they clearly made mistakes. But at Suzuka and China RB were firmly ahead. We'll see - Barcelona will be a good test.

at Suzuka and China red bull were firmly ahead of very different Mclaren and Ferrari cars(to what they are now),which is firmly irrelevant.

Sim racing isn't relevant. It's not real, no risk, no actual physical limitations, etc..

Max's real car racing record is what matters and is certainly enough to put him in the pantheon of greats.
Sim racing is genuinely even more competitive than real racing.

That's ok, I'm used to people dismissing sim racing at this point. Whether there's real danger or not has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the level of challenge and competitiveness of the sport. Heck, many real world racers say the sim racing is actually harder in many ways...

Thoughts on Max's final q3 run?

After seeing qualifying today RB must have felt that Max is the only horse in the team pulling the load..When Max fail or make mistake that will be the end.

Not looking good for Perez
