McLaren lands senior Aston F1 aerodynamicist amid aggressive recruitment push

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/mcla ... /10449414/

"Motorsport.com has learned that its bid to expand the aero department has now resulted in it concluding agreements with 15 individuals, some who have joined already and some who will need to serve gardening leave before being able to move across. It is understood that the senior staff include personnel from a range of top teams like Ferrari, Red Bull and Aston Martin."
Be interesting to note whom it is they have recruited for each of these teams and their level of seniority

well hope he was involved in their latest car, which only was developed with the rb recruits, cause what aston delivered until, was not amazing to say the least, we need someone who can shed light on what makes the aston/rb so good
There are plenty of talents up and down rhe grid. Sometimes it's not just a case of tell us how they did it at XYZ. Sometimes it's just a case of needing a fresh set of eyes or more people doing different things and less multitasking.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

*Insert sarcasm*
He’s useless that Zak Brown
As long as these individuals have made a move with better job security than the likes of Ricciardo or Key!
If Key delivered a decent car, they’d both still be at McLaren!

True, so I guess it all depends on when he left AMR and how much he was exposed to. I recall seeing on the LinkedIn page of other guy who joined from AMR in January, he mentioned that he worked on both the AMR22 & 23.

He is still listed as AMR in linkedin. Also Head of aerodynamic technology. So i quess he is the guy responsible for the tools, process and methods are uptodate, which sounds like a good addition to the aero team

What surprises me the most is that apparently Lando is taller than Zak and Stella.

I expected the tunnel to be bigger but I guess if you have to use a scale version of the car, the tunnel doesn't need to be that big.

“When it comes to the Baku upgrade, we do see the numbers, which are promising,” Stella said. “It’s hopefully from sixth, it will allow us to be fifth.
“It’s not enough yet to achieve our objective for the season, which is to become a top-four car.
“This will require the Baku upgrade and we require another couple of upgrades following Baku on which we are working.”

So do they assume Alpine won't bring upgrades for Baku? I can't understand this logic if proclaiming you will be "5th" and assuming everyone else is just standing still around you.

Of they are accounting for a nominal improvement from the rest and their upgrade been good enough to match that improvement and exceed it?

Without having any insight whatsoever to upgrades of other teams, they cannot assume that a team behind them won't overtake them in Baku, nevermind moving forward...
