Mclaren said they have a new front wing for the Canadian GP. But looking at the pics, they're pretty much the same with Turkish GP spec wings.

Good, I hope this may force teams to make more pit stops and/or compromise on their last stint pace in order to finish.

It's possible but Mark is more likely to be looking after his car so it's in one piece when it counts! ie Qually! 8)

There's no need to take risks like this until Qually imo:

Webber said this about the graining:
“It was a pretty good day – we were pleasantly surprised with the pace. We’re going to have a tight fight with everyone tomorrow, but the car ran really well today. There was some graining with the option tyre, but they’ll get better as the track rubbers in, so I’m not worried about it. We’re happy with how today went, it was good.”

Im devastated to hear this coming from Maclaren:
“We're not pulling away down the straights and we've got quite a bit of bottoming – but we can improve in those areas. We're going to have a big debrief this evening and work out where we want to go with the car for tomorrow. The graining on the option tyre made things difficult too – but I think everybody had a similar experience out there, except maybe the Red Bulls. I don't think you'll be seeing a long first stint on the option tyre on Sunday, that's for sure.”

Bridgestone are predicting that all tams will have to run two stoppers.

I wonder if those cars "softer" on their tyres will gamble on a single-stopper though...

Webbers has a lot more experience than Vettel with the track. So it is no coincidence that Vettel needs to experiment a bit more to find his limits. Do you still think Webber will qualify higher?

This tire situation is great for the fans. I don't think there is anything wrong with the tires not lasting, it's simply the way they are. It's up to the teams and drivers to deal with this unexpected challenge.

Saving tires during practice and qualy will be more important than most weekends because you will need at least three sets for the race instead of the usual two. Reading between the lines, it could even be reasonable to use four sets of in the race. Interesting strategy returns to F1!!

Any insight from Jersey Tom?

And since we're on the subject, how does this make the teams feel about the lack of a tire decision for next year? This weekend underlines how critical tires are in F1, but the FIA is busy marking out their turf by delaying a final decision for several weeks.

Red Bull have no shortage of downforce, of course. Sebastian Vettel was fastest in the session despite only having the 19th highest speed through the speed trap – 310.1kph versus Vitaly Petrov’s 319.8kph.

Vettel’s ‘ultimate lap’ – his best three sector times combined – was the second best, one thousandth of a second shy of Alonso’s 1′16.828, with Webber two tenths of a second behind.

While Vettel and Alonso set their best times on the super-soft tyres Nico Rosberg, third fastest, did his quickest lap on the medium compound.

I was just checking the schedule on SPEED for this weekend's race and it shows they won't have the Canadian GP on until Tuesday! Does anyone else have this problem? Is it being shown on a different channel?

Trulli's car is taken apart. Bad for his training.
