High mounted rear springs and the gearbox was mounted between the engine and the rear axle, instead of behind the rear axle. Aimed at improving weight distribution.

Correct Andrew, having the gearbox between engine and rear axle was indeed a novelty. Your go!

I'll revert back to my question posed a while ago before the thread temporarily snuffed it:
andrew wrote: According to rumours a couple years ago, a big Hollywood name was set to play a well renowned motorsport commentator in a film about the life of some German chap who raced a little green car in 1991 (not sure what became of him...)

Name the actor, the commentator and just for the hell of it, name the F1 driver.

Well, I know Sylvester Stallone was planning an F1 movie, but MrE's financial demands became too much why he decided to do the outright horrible "Driven" together with CART instead. The car would be a Jordan and the drver obviously MS.

The driver was to be Michael Schumacher and the little green car was the Jordan 191.

Any idea on the F1 commentator or the actor? Want a clue?

Just a wild guess:

Robin Williams posing as Murray Walker?

Murray Walker is the correct commentator but certainly not Robin Williams (what an insult to MrW!!).

The said actor was famed for throwing rebelious Germans off office blocks in the late 80's.

I was thinking about "Good morning Vietnam".

Next guess: Bruce Willis?

Correct!

Bruce Willis was rumoured to be getting lined up to play Murray Walker in a biopic of Michael Schumacher.

I can just hear the start now. "GO YIPEE KAY AY MOTHER******!!!!!!"

Who's go is it now?

Which French F1 driver in the 70s admitted to read poetry, which was considered as a rather odd activity for an F1 driver at the time?

I'll take a stab in the dark (or should that be A Shot in the Dark seeing as we are looking at the French?) - Jacques Laffite.
