I don't think he meant that's the reason McLaren are 7th, just a general comment about the session, which is true. Encouraging start to the weekend nonetheless.

In that case I would like to make a general comment that Mclaren was doing aero tests just like the rest and the aero test times of Mclaren were much better than the rest.
I can't wait for the day that Mclaren will repeat the dominations of old so the neighsayers can go back crawling where they came from.

No, you lot are just fan boying - that wasn't what I said at all - I said *all* teams were doing aero runs, so the times aren't indicative of anything really. The midfield is too close to tell if you've had an improvement from FP1 with a car full of aero rakes.
Aero test times of one car being faster than another car with aero rakes on is meaningless - they'll run for what they're wanting to check. Whether that's in a straight line on the dirty side of the track away from other cars for clean data or whether they're looking for maximum cornering speed to check instabilities.

Gone for good, it was great in it's hayday, thanks to all who contributed.
It means that each team has different programs. Not all are equal.
This affects the order of the table, especially in the middle zone.
Do not take it personally. @PhillipM is right
At best, an encouraging start no doubt. Let's see how FP2 goes, which is during a more representative time of day for qualy and the race. Just for reference purposes, Fernando did set a 1:33:223 in FP1 last year, compared to Carlos time today of 1:31:952
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
@2018 Singapore Grand Prix drivers press conference.
I don't think much will change but I can wait as I waited for Norris doing his P8 time in Australia when everyone were putting us just faster than the Williams. All I am saying is that let's not downplay any achievement.
FP1 isn't really indicative of anything, everyone was running aero tests.
So McLaren wasn’t doing the same?
Some people seem like to look for excuses to downplay Mclaren.
It isn’t that he is downplaying Mclaren, but when the teams aren’t running any representative times, their position at the end of FP1 is no indication of how good / bad the team is.
Said in other words, they could be 17-18 in FP2 and it wouldn’t be that something went wrong from FP1 to FP2.

I’m sure Mclaren fans will not downplay any achievement... But, first, there has to be one, don’t you think?
