Good for you, I'm sure he appreciates that if he follows F1T.

Sure even if Button does sign a contract with McLaren...

That'll not stop him signing one with Brawn/Mercedes a week or two later

And to think people were saying Alonso was the key to the drivers' market...Ha ha :D
Good thing MM brought three(four?) new teams to F1.We wouldn't have had this thread otherwise, would we?

Heres my sample for 2010 so far:

Image

Personally, if i were STR-Ferarri, what id try and do is pick up Kimui Kobiyashi and farm Jamie Algusuari out to GP2 for a year, whilst keeping him on at Test & reserve level. Also the exposure for Red Bull in the Japaneese market would be huge.

Simmilarly if Renault are rebranded Nissan (Renault would still supply Red Bull and keep brand exposure here) id recon that putting Kubiyashi or Nakajimma in the team would be gold. Also if Renault were to rebrand the team Nissan, this could lead to a all new Nissan powerplant in the car, thus posibly flouting the engine freeze. However, i think that Renault/Nissan will keep Grosjean on for another season, as i think if he gets a propper good pre-season under his belt he will turn out good.

Whitch leads me to Mercedes GP, i feel that Heidfeld is on the way there, altho he is also in the spot beside Fisi at Quadbak Sauber. However, i think if Heidfeld goes to Mercedes its ona one year retainer, as i feel that their T&R driver could be Kimi, as with Ferarri hes gonna get €17m for a gardening leave season, €10m if he races for another team. If he tests only, he can still get the €17m retainer, this could be with either Mercedes GP or Sauber.

As for Hekki, i feel that he is on his way most probably to either Campos Meta or Sauber for 2010. USF1, now theres the enigma, they, i feel, will go for a young US Driver, posibly Jonathan Summerton or a Mexican driver in Sergio Pérez or Pastor Maldonado from Venezuela, as those drivers will bring substancial sponsorship to the US team.

There are plenty of good young, drivers out there, but is there enough good young experienced drivers out there??? I think not. Thus leads me to think that 2010 could be a year for crashes and incedents in the early stages. Think 2006 with 2009 cars would be my early sinopsis.

I think there is still a chance for Button at MGP but I think he's not holding out for money as such, but length of contract. I've heard no details on the length on offer from MGP but I think it's 1 year. And McLaren are offering 3 years. Even if MGP are offering the full £8m per year Button wanted that's still £10m short of the contract with the McLaren which is not an insignificant amount...whilst driving a car that is likely to be one of the very fastest for all 3 years. But McLaren have negatives...it won't be like home anymore, and he's likely to have to play a slightly 2nd fiddle role (however not as bad as Heikki - HK gave them no choice but to back LH...). McLaren are risk-averse, they might ban Button from Triathlons and other "fun" activities during the season.

I think a 2 year deal at £7m a year would secure Button at MGP...

whats wrong with his dad for goodness sake? ive met him and he is a really nice bloke, he was really interested in the work that i was doing and asked lots of questions top bloke in my book
Many around here dont seem to like his "attitude" or the "faces" he makes... But really its more about the face he was born with.

He's probly thinking about strangling his manager for taking such a stupid buyout... if he was gonna sit out the year he might as well have Ferrari pay his full contract. Now he has no ride(as of yet)and is out a bunch of cash that he was guaranteed, maybe he should hire Hamilton's dad as his new manager, seems to be much better negotiator.

A shame but not a surprise.

I believe he was rated below Button lately, at least that was what I read.

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/11/t ... raikkonen/
Raikkonen has slipped behind Button in McLaren’s pecking order. Button offers three years of stability and marketability for Vodafone. Raikkonen would be a more temporary move.

So this would indicate that the Button's decision is still open.

I find this so interested that the current world champion has basically been scrounging for 5 or 6 million pounds.. while there are three or four others on triple that - if not more (some of whom didn't really impress much in 2009).

Is this all the evidence we need - since teams ought to be the experts on this - that Button isn't in fact the brilliant driver some claimed in the first half of the season and more rather simply consistent (and possessing by-far the best car)?

Food for thought.

A scenario: If you had to sign one driver for five years with zero out-clauses (i.e. you're stuck with each other no matter what) and all the same price who would you sign? Options are: Alonso, Lewis, Kimi or Button.

I doubt many teams would chose Button to be honest.

Kimi and Alonso. Hate each other enough to tear the team appart, but win most of the time.
