Weren't there a couple of teams in the Pre-Qualifying days of 1989/1990 that rigged there lower formula cars to meet the F1 regs? Like Rial or Onyx...

Someone ran an F3000 car in f1 - err...hmm..1986 or 87 - before they got their f1 car sorted out. One of the Italian teams did it I think.. Was it Coloni?

But those cars had 3.5 engines, which effectively made them F1 cars and nothing else?

I agree that they were eligable for F1, but their origins laid in an F3000-design.

Point is they were not eligeable for F3000, or any other formula, which makes them F1 cars and nothing else.

If you see it like this, I have to admit that you´re right.
but it seems, that the general opinion around the net is that they have not been F1 cars.

formula 1 is a high tech sport but surprisingly there is one material still in use you would not associate with a modern precision built racing car but had its place in racecars since the very beginnings.
