Thanks Matt, now widening the scope a bit, not necessarily from within F1;

Which was reportedly the first composite full-monocoque racing chassis, long before both McLaren MP4-1 and Lotus 81?

Was it one of the Chaparral cars in the late 60s? They were awesome!

It was reportedly (careful here) a Chaparral indeed, but which designation, which year and which former F1-WDC driver?

Chapparal 2H, driven by former 12-race GP driver and founder of Chapparal, Jim Hall, in 1968.

You got the designation right, the year wrong, while Jim Hall was never an F1 WDC.

Exciting indeed... I will go for 1969 and Phil Hill please :-)

You would have been correct if you had said "chassis" not "car".

Sorry, I misread it as World Driver's Championship driver >_<
Anyway, yeah, Phill Hill, but I think it might already be 1986.

So far, Chaparral 2H is correct (mnmracer), 1969 is correct (CMSMJ1), but who was the F1 WDC who drove the thing?

John Surtees?

EDIT: Someone else take my go, if I'm right, I don't deserve it, I just know he did some Can-Am. Those more knowledgable than me should take my turn!

And Tozza takes the prize!

Big John actually won the very first Can-Am series in a Lola T70, back in 1966.

If you have a good one, go for it!

A Kerosine Turbine engine, and a lot of overtaking, from the back row of the grid at Zandvoort.
