Sauber C32 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm with you here. But I think the best qualifying positions(in the first 3 GPs) will be either in Sepang or China because Melbourne have too many tight corners in which Sauber cars were never good.

Hulk said to Ted Kravitz that the car remain very good in high speed corners, combined with the low drag of the car, I expect some very good performances from C32 in Sepang, China and Barcelona.

Australia not so good, Bahrain and Monaco very bad tbh, given the historically bad mechanical grip, unless they finally solve that with C32

Afterwards, it will depend on how the car is developed.

I wouldn't be too sure about them being bad at Monaco. I have faith in the Hulk's ability to wrestle a laptime around in Monaco :P

In all seriousness - the last two years the Saubers have, counterintuitively, shown quite strongly in Monaco.

They dont speak too much of the sidepods there, its more a general overview of the car. They only say what we already know, that the radiators are further back, allowing for thinner sidepods. Also a brief mention that the car is built for low drag.

Horner impressed by Lotus and Sauber

Forget the 'big three' -- Christian Horner has admitted teams other than Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari made the "strongest impression" on him last week at Jerez.

"Lotus and Sauber left the strongest impression," the Red Bull chief said, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

"All the others are still difficult to assess," added Horner.

The German magazine's correspondent Michael Schmidt said the new grey Sauber had Nico Hulkenberg "smiling" all week as the opening test at Jerez unfolded.

"Eyewitnesses say the C32 is the best car in the field in fast corners," said Schmidt.

Swiss newspaper Blick's veteran correspondent Roger Benoit, meanwhile, quoted Hulkenberg as confiding to his Sauber colleagues: "Guys, this car goes like the devil."

As for Lotus, both Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen each tasted the top of the timesheets during the four-day test.

"We are quite surprised," admitted the always-grinning Frenchman Grosjean, according to RMC. "I think everybody saw my smile."

:D

So, low drag but still the best on fast corners? If just Spa was the first GP, we maybe could have Sauber with pole and win =P~

to what extend does drag interfere with mechanical grip? does it at all?

You could change drag without changing a car's mechanical grip, and vice versa. So yes, in that sense, they're mutually exclusive and free of interference from each other.

Well since alot of ppl say this car looks gr8 in high speed corners and will inherently have low drag cause of the small sidepods thats atleast 2/3, as in Good DF, Low Drag but still undecided on mech grip in slow speed corners.

Ok maybe they have the best high speed downforce

but what's about low speed downforce? Can they make the flow attached like the big ones?
And remember, low speed downforce is much more important than high speed one

Are the "channels" on the intercooler slightly angled to accommodate for the very sharp angle the airflow has to go?
