Are orange and red marked bits (and those right from the vertical element) like some kind of mini diffusers? Or just to add to the outwash effect?

I think the general idea is to build a controlled spiral, not exactly a high rotational velocity vortex but something that captures outflow from the bargeboards/sidepod and wraps it back onto the flow.
