I wouldn't be surprised if that's true - I seem to remember Schumacher have a bad set of Pirelli's in SS and doing a bad middle stint as a result.bhallg2k wrote:Well, apparently Britney had a bad set of tires. If so, can you really blame the tires? I'd be deflated too if I was a tire and allocated to Mercedes. That's no way to spend a short life.zyphro wrote:Even if MSC was on the wrong setup, he still finished infront of Nico; 1 more lap he would've had 5th and quite possibly 4th. You could say the same about any technical director of any team. I mean what did they do? Only insiders know the specifics. It was published that Ross was well involved with transferring the whole process to Maranello, hiring new engineers (many of whom are in senior positions now) and building a new wind tunnel at Maranello.SeijaKessen wrote:Yes, but as xpensive said, Ron at least had the decency to never call himself a technical director.wunderkind wrote:Seijakessen,
Ron Dennis started out as a mechanic also.
No one on this forum has been able to actually explain to me, what Ross actually did as a TD during the Benetton and Ferrari years. The best I've gotten was when one poster made a post that read more like a Technical Director job posting than anything else. I guess here is my point. Were Ross so instrumental in the success of Benetton and Ferrari --instead of being MrM's ambassador to those teams-- then it really shouldn't be so difficult for him to do the same things with MGP. He was there for 7 championships worth of succcess, yet nothing carries over?
Most Technical directors are/were engineers, which gives a vague hint of what they do/did.Gerhard Berger wrote: ...

the Mercedes W03 will feature its version of the Coanda-type exhaust that has been put to such good use by McLaren, Ferrari and Sauber this season.

Who alleged this?FoxHound wrote: The W04 is also alleged to be an evolution of the W03, and I can see them struggling yet again with tyres in 2013.
Everything is indicating towards an evolution IMO, especially when you consider the lack of changes for next year. But what do I know?NewtonMeter wrote:Who alleged this?FoxHound wrote: The W04 is also alleged to be an evolution of the W03, and I can see them struggling yet again with tyres in 2013.
If true, and I'm not saying it isn't (I just want to know who said so), it's not neccesarily a bad thing. I like the example that the Mp4-20 was an evolution of the MP4-19/18.
It pays to be friends with people in high places.xpensive wrote:What indeed carried over, to Brawn, was the support from MrM to circumvent the diffuser-rules in an outrageous fashion.
Just imagine FIA's reaction if McLaren had tried a stunt like that, impounded cars and another 100 MUSD fine perhaps?
I have this feeling Jean would come up with an idea, and then in an effort to please MrM, he would give credit to Ross to help bolster Ross's resume so it looked like Ross was a real asset to the team.xpensive wrote:Most Technical directors are/were engineers, which gives a vague hint of what they do/did.Gerhard Berger wrote: ...

"Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn told AUTOSPORT that the outfit had perhaps neglected car development too much recently."
Understatement of the year...?
