Really?

I don't think Schumacher needs Rosberg one bit to be honest.

Agreed. Michael's ethic is his own, if anything Nico needs Michael. Nico should get himself carved in with Mclaren and give Jenny a hard time next season as I see Nico as a sharper driver. Ham may not see 2013 as a WDC year so he is probably playing the long game with Merc, and Schu is just there to do what Schu does and I don't think he's the least bit concerned with who his teammate is.

Sadly though, I don't think MSC will stay next year, I think he is heading into retirement, which is a shame considering his form and Merc's prospects for 2013. An MSC-Hammy pair would be fun to watch though, and certainly would have great marketing power for Merc. If only Britney hadn't signed that multi-year contract in November things would be so different...I do believe however that he is more suited at McLaren, Nico and Button have similar driving styles (dull as hell if you ask me) and he would fit in perfectly.

PS: Funny thing, the situation reminds me of 2006 and the way MSC left Ferrari, still fast and still capable of winning. Will history repeat itself? I for one hope that it doesn't.

No things are different - MSC was genuinely worn out in 2006. Remember the amount of testing days he used to do, which took its toll. Nowadays it's a lot different; he's come back to racing for 'fun' - as he enjoys it. Although we all know, if he gets a half-decent car he'll be competing fiercly just like the likes of Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton et al.

How sad to see that just about every interesting thread is degenerating into fanboyism these days?

Dear x, can you point out the "fanboyism" please? All I see is people supporting MSC, me included and saying that Nico (although fast and consistent) has less potential (or even current ability) than Michael. Do you disagree? Isn't MSC the driver that shines from the Merc pair?

PS: If this is about the nickname "Britney" then it is funny coming from a man who uses a variety of nicknames for Haug, Brawn etc.

Seems to be the way of the world here.

You know xpensive, I think I finally figured it out what it might be like to sit on on the Daimler board meetings when the topic of MGP comes up.

Based upon how starstruck people get here when things like Lewis Hamilton possibly going to MGP happen, one can only imagine the effect it has on the Daimler board and DrZ who would like nothing more than to fool themselves into thinking victory is still within grasp.

Really now people.

This isn't like the days when some guys could take a B car and wring an A car level performance out of it.

They still need to design a somewhat functional vehicle that doesn't suck more than the top contenders since the tire lottery is going to dictate the race pace being relatively similar amongst top teams. It's just a matter of who loses their operating window first.

What is Rory Byrne up to these days...surely Daimler could tempt him with some outrageous package of stock options and cash just for a couple of decent car designs eh? Or even Gordon Murray? If MGP is just going to rob McLaren now, why not go for a few more pieces too?

Fanboyism anyone?

But seriously, could DrZ possibly go along with another 30 MEUR for Hamilton while his team is barely making 5th in the WCC?

Τbh, I supported McLaren in the past due to the Mercedes engine, but since Merc appeared as an independent team I instantly knew which was the team that i really cared for. As for MSC, I hated his guts while at Ferrari, but now I can't have anything but respect and admiration for someone that is 43 years old and still manages to be on the highest level of motorsport fighting race in-race out with people 20 years younger than him. Even more when the team manages to fail hin every him way imaginable but he remains professional and passionate as ever. If I am considered a fanboy then so be it, no hard feelings really.

As for the Hamilton move, if it happens, that means that the Merc team is really sure that the 2013 car designed under the 3 Kings is going to be the one that pushes them to the front once and for all, and Hammy the ideal man to give that extra 2% needed for emphatic wins-poles. Surely this year there where some signs of improvement, such as the attention to detail on the W03 but as a whole many more things where disappointing (tyres, late updates and false promises). All in all, Merc could find better use for that money instead of investing them on Hammy but who am I to tell Dr.Z how to use the Daimler resources?

It could also depend on what Lewis's sponsors are willing to kick in too...

Perhaps they have deep pockets like Maldonado thus requiring only a bare minimum to be given from Daimler's pocket?

Either that or they promised the heavens and the earth to Lewis which perhaps overrides everything?

"I'm trying to help them as they are trying to help me to win both championships. It is an incredible team and I have a great relationship with them so I'm really looking forward to the future," added the 27-year-old.

this quote from hammy found here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motors ... -team.html

would lead me to believe that he is not going anywhere and schumi seat is not under threat of a young gun - maybe i am just too naive

The rumor originated from Eddie Jordan? Well now we can forget about the entire thing.

Remembering that Eddie called Button to McLaren, and had everyone laugh at him.
