Hate to admit this, but I am coming round to sky.

Their race commentators are great, and I'm coming round to the rest of the show as well. Better than the BBC this year afraid to say it...

...plus I love their opening credits showing the history of F1

I bought Sky because it seemed like excellent value for money. I pay £30 / month for phone-line, TV, and broadband - that includes phone line rental. Assuming that you pay £20 a month anyway for your phone line and your broadband, it's only an extra £10 a month.

£120 a year is a very good price for the value you get from Sky HD. First, the sky box includes 1TB harddrive that you can record up to two programmes at once. So that's an end to me missing practice session 3 that BBC never bothered to put up on iPlayer. Also, the practice sessions are in HD which you never got on the "Red Button".

The Sky features also look amazing, you can follow any driver you want, plus if you have a couple of laptops laying around you can login to the web and follow your favourite two drivers whilst having the director's cut on your main TV.

I have a feeling Sky a really going for it in terms of features. They will blow BBC away. I will miss Eddie Jordan and Coulthard though.

If you're not willing to pay £120 for that, then I don't think you can really consider yourself a true fan - most people spend that much within a month just going to the pub!
If you have Sky don't you get access to all the cars on-board camera during the race? I though i heard something about that.

The onboard cameras are on the red button during the race & qualifying, not sure about practice.

You get a choice of 9 cameras to choose from. Id say it was 4 or 5 onboard cameras. Normally The top guys. but 1 onboard camera was on a car that was battling with the car infront.

It really is better than BBC. Good to see people coming round to it. Pklus Sky will only get better, Still very early in Sky era.

Every session live, repeated and again. You cant miss a thing. Same with the GP2. And all the other shows. Today its a visit to Jody Scheckter's house :D

You think Sky is better than BBC? I only need it for the onboard cameras. Do you think BBC or Sky is best for that?

Really I don't mind about watching the highlights later on in the day or on iplayer rather than watching the races live. It's what I did last season anyway so it doesn't bother me.

The greatest sticking point for me is money. I have Virgin Media, and they want £27 a month for Sky Sports 1 & 2, giving me SSF1. But I don't want to pay for Sky Sports 1 & 2 (or the football channel and cricket channel as i like to call them) because I will never ever watch those, so it's wasted money. And ther's no HD. If I had a sky subscription, I wouldn't hesiatate, as it's bundled in with the HD pack for only £10. That is a sh*t deal for cable viewers.

As for the quality of the commentary, I like Ben Edwards and David Coulthard. They are a great pairing and I like Ben's style. I know that David Croft is great from listening to R5L practices and qually last season, and that his pairing with MB is a killer combination, but I don't mind missing out.

There have been a few complaints on here about Eddie Jordan. I don't mind him either. BBC's pre-race coverage with Jake Humphrey and DC is like watching banter with mates. Sky (from the hour or so that I have seen from a friends house) are taking it sooooo seriously with the suits, the formal panels and the bluescreen studios. It reminds me of football coverage. I also get the feeling that Sky are dumbing down to the average punter level so that your non-F1 watchers can understand. It just grates horribly.

Here's some advice from someone who used to have Virgin and currently has Sky.
First, seriously consider switching to Sky. I pay ~£30 a month for Sky HD, TV and Phoneline, and Broadband. Second, call up Virgin and tell them you're going to leave them as it's too expensive for you to pay extra for sky sports, they may perhaps cut you a better deal for you to stay with them. If not, call up Sky and tell them you're considering switching to them and are currently on Virgin, they will probably give you a slightly better deal than normal.

Both Sky and Virgin are at war with each other atm, and if you're switching from one to the other, you can get good deals.

If you have an iDevice the Sky Sports TV app is currently half price at £5 a month until June.

It includes the F1 channel

I personally do not live in the UK but have seen both races on Sky...

I cannot stand the commentator! I much prefer Brundle and Coulthard to the nitwit they currently have. Really, I don't need you screaming into the microphone every time someone uses DRS to make a pass that even I could have preformed. Its so artificial sounding. You can tell he has no race experience.

Brundle and Coulthard gave a great insight into what the drivers experience and what is and isn't expected of them in the cockpit, which I much prefer to that ranting lunatic. Lay off the amphetamines!

High level race experience? I know nothing of the man so I apologize if I'm completely wrong, but his over the top delivery is too much for me.

7th year commentating on F1. Not sure of F1 is high enough a level for your classification though.

Yeah, not to mention that (as I found out only last Sunday, I had been breaking my head trying think where I'd heard that voice before) you know that bodyless voice asking the questions in the post-race press conference? That's him.

His over the top delivery comes from a radio background. If he can tone it down a bit during the race, as he does do during FP btw, then it'll be fine. Second race was already better.

Lazenby as well seemed much more relaxed already for the second race. And they are starting to use that Skypad thing more. I'm sorry I don't have full access to all the goodies, but I'm glad I arranged a Skygo logon for myself.

it rotates. It's not always him.

It's more like a talkshow in free practice. I think it's because of the irrelevance of the results and events. Relatively.

I still miss Jake. He had this weird ability to seemingly juxtapose everything. If they were talking tyres and wanted to move to the physical challenge of driving in F1, he'd have a thread connecting the two. Always. I don't know how he does it. Lazenby to me feels sloghtly "cold" and "metallic." Like he's there to do a job. Jake seems to me like a relaxed, passionate fan.
