And what do McLaren do with their old chassis;
* They keep 3, 2 fully working and one for display at MTC in Woking, most probably key chassis, like the one Hamilton won his WDC in 2008 and one other with a the smallest ammount of milage on it.
* For the Mercedes era, send ont to the Mercedes Museum in Munich.
* If theres any remaining they will probably sell them after a few years to private collectors in the far east or give to motorsports museums as a gift.
Not sure about point 1. They only like WC winners or very significant chassis on display on the boulevard at the MTC.

Also they dont sell them off to private collectors. There are chassis tucked all over the place in Woking. There is an underground area that was meant to be a sponsored museum at MTC but it never come to be. This is full of old cars getting shuffled about. There are also a lot dotted about in the old HQ and the other industrial units Mclaren own...pretty cazy!

he has enough money.

does it escape you that he might actually want his car for a reminder of the good and bad times with the team, and the end result?
Well, Jenson doesn't strike me as a sort of guy who would have emotional attachment to, what is basically some plastic and metal on wheels, he might keep it for a year or two and sell it later on a charity auction.
Well forgive me, but I doubt either of us here are in any fit state to judge Jenson's emotional approach to the sport. As a keen follower of his for years I would say quite the opposite. Considering the expectation he originally had, then what were years of disapointment for him and his fans, then the entrance of Lewis as being top dog... Im sure this car means a hell of alot more to JB than just some metal, plastic on wheels ;-)!

I will have to agree with you, I might not be the best person to ask about Jenson's emotional approach to F1, but I still think he will most probably auction it and give part of the money for charity. Seems to me Jenson is too cool of a guy to feel emotional attachment to a car.

So Macca have an underground garage full of cars? I assume the reason they keep them is to keep the books in check. Having £20mill worth of cars on the sheets must be good for Ron Dennis's bank balance ;)

Either way I do not think ive ever seen a McLaren on display anywhere, except for a the Grand Prix Circuits.

Given the choice, I would have the 2008 car as I think its probally the sexiest F1 car ever produced. Saying that the 2009 car looked ugly as sin when I first saw it but has since grown on me.

FFS - These folk are probably more passionate than most of us, it's what gives them the drive and determination to get to the top while others fall away.

Jensen will probably keep that car until his dying day, unless he gives to a museum.

Agreed, this article describes some of them ... http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/03 ... ng-uk.aspx

Did you mean "crazy" in a good way? I think its awesome for them to be surrounded by so much history.

That was the year when the aero chaps blighted the cars with every possible appendage. Yes, it technically stunning, but the pic below shows the full horror of that year:

A bit off topic, but I felt too that the 2009 and 2010 cars are very "clean" and "sleek" looking, especially when compared to their elder brothers and sisters

I agree, at first I didnt like the "straight lines" or "short" rear wing, but I must admit they do look pritty cool now. Abit like the Honda Civic, didnt like the new model and then it eventually grew on me.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will drive a McLaren-TAG MP4-2C of the same type Alain Prost used to win the 1986 world championship next month.

The pair will take turns driving the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

They will also drive a 2008-spec Mercedes-powered MP4-23 which Hamilton won the world championship with two years ago.

Last year’s world championship-winning machine, the Brawn BGP 001, will also be there. But as the car is owned by Mercedes it will not be driven by Button – instead Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg will drive the car.

A full list of Formula 1 cars at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed will be published here shortly. The Festival runs from July 2nd – 4th.
Shame Jenson wont be able to drive his World Championship Winning Car, but instead get to ride Lewis + Alain's. I think Mercedes should let him drive that BrawnGP at Goodwood, then present it to him to take home!!!
