The most fascinating part of tomorrow will be how Redbull strategy by starting on the SS will unfold. IMO, I'm not sure it's that good of an idea, unless he can make sure the top 10 cars are all bunched up behind him. This will mean that once Mercedes pits their cars, they'll be in traffic and then it would be crucial for Ricciardo, on the more durable SS tires to make a gap that is larger than the time it takes to pit to come back out ahead.
If during any part of the 1st 3rd of the race, Mercedes finds some clean air to pit, they will and then it will be a race between Ricciardo on slower used SS against the Mercedes 25seconds behind on fresher tires. Any constellation where RedBull ends up being on quicker US but behind towards the end of the race will mean he won't win it. I think last year showed nicely that even on fresh tires (Hamilton when Mercedes brought him in during safety car) you will not be passing any cars on track.
@dans79, yeah. But I fear he had to do those laps, or was instructed to, by the team to make sure everything was running smoothly. Or he would never have been fueled to do that many laps. Me too, am considering not watching the rest of the season. I'm seriously annoyed that all these glitches and problems are only happening on one side of the garage and is robbing us of what would probably be a spectacular battle.
