well...78 was BMW junior team times ...and bruno was the lead driver but you could hardly call him a junior..

As Herd was massively proteging Giacomelli in all the years...not sure but maybe x is correct and Jack o malley ´s sister was married to robin herd or something..

Sorry matt, there goes the 48 hour rule again, this is not the most popular thread anymore I'm fraid?

In the 1971 Italian GP, there was a bizarre controversy around who was on pole, which was not publicly resolved until raceday.

What was that all about?

I think the stop watch accuracy was not good enough and several drivers had the same time ?

Ooops...I was a bit quick there, forgot about the GMT vs CET, but anyway;

No, it had nothing to do with the timing itself, more down to business actually.

I thought the timekeepers had overlooked Amons time and Ickx was polesitter until admitting the fault?

Porr chris lost his Helmet visor in the race proper and again had his trademark no luck in F1 finishing 6th or something..

...
Correct marcush, but for a goldstar here, why would they have "overlooked" Amon's time until Sunday then?

Just to give the answer to my question.

Robin was English speaking no Italian and Brun was Italian speaking no English.
They solved the issue by communicate in Latin. I think this is unique in motorsports.

ah ,that´s something I heard of ..when I got to know the BMWjuniors I´m sure they all spoke english ....so it had to be a fair bit earlier than F2 methinks...
Something was happening between Herd and Jacko ..he was THE March works driver and herd tried to position him outside his team as well..for his latin tongue? :wtf:

but -there is a question to be asked:

old stuff reálly :

What was the special surprise Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi had for their Boss (now FIA president)waiting in Maranello on the official Rollout event for the beautiful 1995 Barnard designed formula 1 car and why did Jean alesi NOT perform the driving even though that had been the original plan?

They had smashed up Luca's road car? Alesi was suffering a stiff neck or some other related injury?

..

ok ,almost right-

Gerhard and Jean were ordered to go to the test track during the new car presenntation preparing for an official rollout of the new babe.
As they went out of the factory they found a brand new shiny Lancia parking in front of the factory ,key in the lock and they thought it was theirs for the trip to the track.
Alesi behind the wheel ,Berger in control of the handbrake they took off.
It worked beautifully till the entrance to the fiorano test track as alesi steering and berger using the handbrake did not work out as intended and they landed on the roof of the car quite in the entrance area where in a few minutes a horde of journos and The Boss -Jean Todt would arrive ....During car exit ,Alesi cut his hand as the window glass was broken ...the mechanics hurried and put the car back on wheels and quickly put a tarpaulin over the wreckage....and Alesi quickly went away for medical treatment even though he was announced to do the rollout of the F1 car....When the journos and poor Jean Todt arrived everything was ok till Jean got suspicious as Alesi was feeling unwell he was told and he spotted the tarpaulin- took a look under it and almost got a heart attack when he saw his brand new company car..
your go !

That is a great story. Times have changed now eh? It must have been very funny indeed to know what was under the tarpaulin..I'd have been sniggering away.

I've nothing clever to ask so will throw in an easy one...
