2014 Engine yin yang

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I don't belive Williams have the money to pay for those engines in full without Maldonado, there must be something else in that deal.

English ?
-Mercedes engine lasts 5,820km
-one engine has to last 4,000km -> enough
-in oktober no team had a engine that lasted more than 3,000km
-Mercedes uses the "phase 3 engine" on the engine test rig
-that is the last spec/phase and we will see this engine at least at the tests
-also Renault already tests the engine they will use at the first test at the 28th January

Auto motor and sport says.

SOME key components last around 5k kilometers on the Bench .(that may be read as : some engines last as long but some don´t? or it is the battery side that caused the headache in terms of endurance)
they are already testing Phase 3 specification on the bench which is the definite product for testing and racing !
The critical part is the lithium ion batteries which are assembled in china and quality checked in Chicago....

British engines, Chinese batteries, American QA, German flag?

That wasn't meant as a nationalist comment. It'd be fascinating to piece together the supply chain, for example I can understand batteries made in China, but why ship them to Chicago for QA?

I'm assuming that American company that mercedes have teamed up with for cooling are based in Chigaco. The batteries I'm assuming are going to produce quite a bit of heat?

The battery company is probably american. They just have their production based in China. Nothing unusual in that :)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Panasonic, I understand they're suppying Tesla motors as well, but surely made in China anyway?

So the German press claims that the German engine that hasn't quite been shown in public has muuuuch more power then the non german engines that nobody has seen.
Now the Italian press claims that the unseen Italian engine is muuuuuch lighter than the other engines that they haven't gotten access to to compare.
One can only assume tomorrow the French press will happily declare that the unseen French engine uses muuuuch less fuel than the opposition they don't have access to.
And this is even before any of those engines is quite finished and tuned.

Gentlemen, restraint and common sense, please!
