Alonso Is caught in a very dangerous place on the grid. Roman, pastor, Bruno are all behind him. A first corner accident might just put him out of the race.

Pole is on the clean side. Right, which is the racing line towards t1. Drivers are talking the left side is maybe worse for 2 car lentghs in terms of traction.
komninosm wrote:Why did everyone do soo many laps?
Because the tyres take 3-4 laps to get up to temperature here in us due to very smooth tarmac.

i didnt know FIA is awarding general concenses WDC every year
Your problem is that you are associating who wins the WDC as being an indication of who has been the best driver over the course of the year. The notion of most deserving driver requires a judgement based on relatives vs absolutes, i.e who has performed the best over the year with the materials they have been given to work with...that is clearly Alonso.

You obviously are incapable of making such a distinction but know there are others in this world who can...

thus the basis for this article

on that basis, it should be Kimi who deserves the title (we can argue all day)

Oh come on guys. This is a technical forum for crying out loud. It's not a personality contest nor is it a discussion of showbiz. No driver - be it Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel, Button, whoever else - doesn't deserve such slamming because he "makes it boring."

Sure, from a TV spectator point of view it might be boring at the front - but why blame Vettel? He's just doing his best to give himself the best chance for a race win. Hamilton was on a dominant pole several times this year - and no one complained then of "oh dear we're going to have a boring race. I hope Hamilton's car blows up." Button was on a dominant pole in Spa - no one cried "boring race" then either. Or Rosberg in China. So on and so forth.

In other news...

On people feeling Alonso deserves the title more - I agree. Personally I feel he deserves the title the most this year, though from a purely personal point of view I'd prefer Vettel to take the title (I'm not a big fan of Alonso, nor of Ferrari). But when has F1 ever been about who "deserves" the title the most? F1, like any other sport or motorsport, has always been results-based, and if you want the prizes, you have to get the results - be it by car advantage or better driving.

Why hate on Vettel because he has a car advantage that 22 of his competitors don't have? If you were an F1 driver - you'd take that advantage too.

I don't think Andy Benson should ever be quoted. IMO one of F1's worst journalists, worthy of Planet-F1

Kimi has raced well all season but arguably in a better car than Ferrari for much of it. The big difference though is that it is Alonso and Vettel in the title hunt...not Kimi.

Yeh but his journalism was not the point I was making.

Rather I was trying to suggest hat there are people who can conceive of what a most deserving driver is without blinding thinking that whoever wins the WDC must be the best driver.

@Juzh,

Ok thanks mate. I think that sets Raikkonen up nicely to make up two places at the start. Webber isn't exactly known for having good starts and Hamilton will have to make do with the (very) dirty side.

With such a smooth tarmac then how many laps will the harder and softer tyres last in the race?

Yeah of course. But this is F1. In F1 - and any other sport - it's not always the case that the most deserving wins. Often, the most deserving does not.

A comfortable one stop I'd reckon

Meanwhile, the MP4/27 f****d one of the drivers once again.

Raikkonen is actually 4th now and on the dirty side because grosejan took 5 grid penaly for gearbox change.
