Does he really need to prove anything?
He can damage his reputation only if he would do something awkward. But he's older and wiser now.
No but iirc in his last year with Ferrari he was starting to look a bit ragged on track and was making silly mistakes.

He always seemed to make some stupid things once he lost concentration or felt uncomfortable. But I think he would be much more relaxed if he comes back. And he seemed bloody fast at RoC - beating Button and Vettel fair and square.
Thats debatable I would say. Ferrari used to enjoy bullet proof reliability and then at a critical point in China he had an engine failure. That was much more critical to the Alonso triumph. Also in the last race there was a very suspicious coming together with Fisichella in the second Renault which blew his tyre and robbed him of the last chance to win that race. The only dumb thing he did was the Rascasse parking which was one of his black outs that really were totally unnecessary.

It was Japan.

He also had totally unnecessary crash at Australia that year. Crashed under a safety car at China at previous year and also spun at the race at China the year before that.
His attacks at Jerez'97 and Adelaide'94 were also caused by his own errors.
Maybe "dumb" is not the right word, but it seems that his main strength was mental capacity and concentration, but when he loses it he does something strange.
The crash in Australia was not a silly one. Ferrari had had tyre problems for three races in a row and only the second set was selected and prepared correctly. So Michael had to run qualifying laps to catch up with the leaders. There was a nasty bump just off track in the last corner which wasn't visible or known before. Michael went a little wide on this corner and lost control over that bump. Later JPM in the McLaren also went wide at the same spot and bumped the car so hard that the ECU stalled. It was by no means a silly mistake by both drivers but avoidable accidents if the track had been better prepared.
I always wonder how the people who criticised Schumi's mistakes in 2005 and 2006 overlooked that Alonso equally had a much higher number of mistakes when he was forced to drive uncompetitive or less competitive cars in 2008 and 2009. Those guys are only human and naturally they make more mistakes when the conditions are adverse. Nevertheless they are head and shoulder above other F1 drivers.
Most F1 observers believe that Schumacher is back to a very strict fitness regime and is well capable to drive competitively and win races. If he is a bit slower than in his prime years he will probably compensate that by his legendary race craft. One should also remember that he will be teamed again with his dream team partner Brawn. With a competitive car the two can be a force to reckon with. I am very confident that we will have interesting races if he comes back.

Rosberg will on occasion beat him just as Massa did. MS does some crazy things when the car isnt capable of winning, If he does come back I hope we dont see any more of his shenanigans.

He wants a piece of Hamilton now. I could smell it from Massa's accident.
He better be careful, he may bite off more than he can chew. He might look even more ragged when the pressure gets to him.
not to mention the few championships he has won with all these flaws...sorry guys but not to like him is ok but isn#t it a bit nitpicky to dwell on possible faults with that spectacular resume speaking for his alround universal potential ?
He surely went too far at times ,but that can be said about senna and prost as well.
Maybe one could argue about his age ,but then he was not exactly sitting at home
gaining weight lately ...and if I remember correctly his last race with ferrari was nothing less then a spectacular ,stellar drive .
So to think he might struggle is possible but surely not something one would put money on.Will he be blown away by lewis ? this is more a matter of car potential
Will Rosberg blow him away ? Lets wait and see.

It's more than that, I think after seeing what LH did to Alonso, shumi might be interested in challenging Lewis. Both their talents may supersede the car car potential argument.
uh oh.. i can sense a LH vs FA vs MS argument brewing here..
Trulli has reportedly signed with Lotus, Di Grassi with Virgin Racing.. both expected confirmed this week by respective team press conferences (Lotus 14th Dec @ 12pm Malaysia time GMT+8, Virgin 15th Dec)
Kovalainen was seen at Enstone on Friday, making a return to Renault more likely, according to Confidential-Renault.fr - he's reportedly in with a chance at Lotus & Renault for 2010.
