finished 15s behind. Leclerc had much better pace again, just like in Silverstone. Lewis was lucky Max was holding Charles on the beginning. With clean air, Hamilton just fell behind. Idk if Hamilton had significant damage from the crash in which he destroyed Russell´s race but Leclerc also crashed into Piastri (should have been punished as well and both with more than 5s but FIA wants Ferrari in the championship...) and could have carried damage from that as well

Another tough weekend for Hamilton. He desperately needs to bounce back on the next GP which is one of his best tracks, otherwise it will get ominous for him
Lewis challenged Charles during the first stint and was the fastest car on track during the second stint at one point, all with a bargeboard missing. People coming in the thread ever week no matter the result just to --- on a driver is so annoying
Lewis overtook Oscar on lap 9.
Charles was driving right behind Max the whole time and Max was holding him back.
Max pitted on lap 18.
VSC came out on lap 20; Charles, after just two laps in clear air, had opened up a 4-second lead over Lewis...

It’s the same situation as with Sainz: he was attacking Charles on the first few laps, suggesting he was faster, but after a few laps, as his tyres wore out more, his pace dropped like a stone.

second stint, at the end of the VSC:
Hamilton gap to Charles 12s
end of the race 15s

end of the disccussion...
Hehe, of course HAM was faster behind LEC!
He had huge slipstream, AND the boost mode!!
Every decent driver will be faster than their team mate just behind them, because of those 2 reasons.

I do not care who was actually faster, but in this case, HAM was only faster in those moments. Whenever he was a bit more behind, he was not. And hopefully this was exactly what Ferrari saw in the data, 10000x better than we.

you failed to mention that Hams left bargeboard was broken off, and they couldnt dial the wing during his stop.
those 2 areas alone can account for the pace deficit especially if you need some time to adjust to a sub optimal set up after a failed pit stop. Also dont forget because of the accident at the stop Ham also lost another 2+ seconds and to top it all off hes driving an nonoptimized car due to his FP3 crash which he openly admitted to. meanwhile, lec had his optimal car setup and just drove his race.

the fact is, ever since his FP3 crash we all knew that it would be a recovery drive for ham for the race. it only became worse after being tagged at the start with bargeboard damage, an unjust penalty and a botched pitstop that left his car with understeer. Unless theres divine intervention like last race, P4 was always going to be the best result.

yea its disappointing that it wasnt a 1-2 or 2-3 but sometimes its really irritable when people are desperate to be glass half empty and scraping the bottom of the barrel to find whatever metrics to prove their point.

Leclerc also wasn’t thrilled with his car by the end of the race: issues with shifts between gears 1-2, and apparently he wasn’t happy with his wing level, either.
