Everything you mentioned was exactly why it was funny. Nobody was hurt and it cost Mercedes in monetary terms and Lewis and Nico in Championship points. Similar situations happened at Red Bull and McLaren in the past. It was also caused by Lewis breaking too early in the first corner and Nico with his mode settings in the 3rd corner.
But the biggest laugh came with the Mercedes out of the race it opened up a battle between Red Bull and Ferrari that we really haven't had for the lead in a GP for quite some time.
