I don't think Mercedes would take it until atleast lap 60. You need to have far bigger delta to attack Max as his tyres are also sitting with loads of life and if Mercedes take new tyres now, they would have no chance by the end of race to attack.

Mercedes can't pit Lewis now because Max will then push, pit and still be ahead and start to chase George. They need to ask George to so slower and block Max so he cant push when Lewis pits but they won't so they're all staying out.

Stroll pits to chase Gasly, but he has the leaders in front of him. That's the other problem with pitting. If you are lapped, then you have to unlap yourself from the leaders to catch who you are chasing.

They only have a soft tyre so they need less laps to run it on to the finish. But you are right. Even if those softs burn out, then he can still fight to the front then make the car wide.

That Tsunoda gap is curious. It could be a Redbull instruction to leave the gap for Max.
