Ok, I didn't have anything prepared so perhaps this will be too easy.

One of the three Mercedes Gr. C "baby team" drivers, made a move on someone's girlfriend during his F1 career, and was attacked with a knife. Name the F1 driver who saved his life.

The 1990 group C Mercedes junior team was comprised of Frentzen, Schumacher and Wendlinger under the guidance of Jochen Mass.

Frentzen dropped out after the 1990 season and the other two went on to drive the 1991 season as well. The only well known girlfriend story is Corinna Betsch. Prior to 1991 she was dating HH Frentzen but got involved with Schumacher sometime in 1991. She married him in 1995. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this knife fight and the rescue driver.

It wasn't Frentzen pulling the knife because Schumacher made a move on Corinna.

I gathered that much. Both Betsch and Frentzen have always said that they had separated before the other relationship developed.

Frentzen was later trailed by long time girl friend and later wife Tanja Nigge. Perhaps the knife fight involved this lady.

Instead of introducing further elements into the riddle you could do something about the ambiguity of your first post. What is the the relationship of the driver in question with one of the Merc drivers? Did he rescue him out of a knife fight? Even that isn't really clear. Are you even talking about the three drivers mentioned? I think you are sending us on a wild goose chase.

Sorry, no one else was trying to answer, so I thought it is a slow day or something.

No wild gooses chase, I'm a vegetarian.

Few leads and answers to your questions:

- Both drivers started driving F1 in season when incident occurred.

- They weren't teammates, not from same country although they shared native language.

- Driver whose name is wanted saved other driver from an attack of third person who was not an F1 driver.

- Only one of three Merc. baby team drivers was involved.

I tried a few searches down different tangents and could not even get a mild foothold of this incident, or near incident.

- Incident didn't happen anywhere near circuit.

- It was during leisure time, late evening or early hours.

- His car was powered by Ford V8, while the car of the driver he saved was powered by Mercedes V10.

- His teammate was son of an triple F1 champion, and a constructor.

Now it is easy. C'mon, I've reduced options with last hint to 1/1.

Re: F1 Quiz Chain

Post

This is still far from clear. Let me repeat:

Frentzen, Schumacher and Wendlinger were called the Mercedes baby group C drivers. One of these three came under attack by a person with a knife. Another F1 driver who had the same Rookie season with our baby Benz driver saved his life.

For the record we jot down the rookie seasons of our candidates.

Schumacher 1991 (Jordan, Benetton)
Wendlinger 1991 (Leyton House Racing)
Frentzen 1994 (Sauber)

Rookies in 1991: Schumacher, Wendlinger, Hakkinen, Blundell, Comas, Zanardi, van de Poele, Chaves, Barbazza, Bartels, Hattori
Rookies in 1994: Frentzen, Coulthard, Verstappen, Panis, Beretta, Salo, Ratzenberger, Lagorce, Adams, Schiattarella, Noda, Inoue, Deletraz, Montermini

Now we get closer. The only Mercedes V10 drivers were Wendlinger and Frentzen. Schumacher never drove Mercedes V10s. But the engine was only called Mercedes in the 1994 season. Before it was called Illmor and Sauber. So we are now pretty sure the baby Benz driver was Frentzen. As we are looking for another German speaker we look for Austrians or Swiss. That would be Ratzenberger, who ran a Simtek with Ford V8 engine. One of his teammates was David Brabham son of Sir Jack Brabham, triple champ and F1 designer.

This is probably the source of the riddle. Ratzenberger may have saved Frentzen's life in a dance bar (disco) when someone pulled a knife and the taller and stronger Ratzenberger overpowered the opponent and took away his knife.

http://www.f1rejects.com/centrale/ratze ... index.html
Frentzen recounted an incident in Japan, when Ratzenberger came to the aid of a girl in a Japanese disco, confronting her knife-wielding attacker in the process.
This would place the incident either around the Aida GP 1994 or more likely in his pre F1 Japanese racing years when he was friend with other gaijin racers Mika Salo, Jacques Villeneuve, Johnny Herbert, Eddie Irvine and HH. Frentzen.

Khadija Adam, an Yves Saint Laurent model for eight years, lost her fiance, Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger, who died after a crash. They were to be married this summer.

This I don't understand.

Khadija Adam may have been the girl in question. I have been unable to find out more about the incident.

My apologies for suspecting a wild goose chase. This incident was very obscure and without tons of hints you can spend a lifetime researching it. I would appreciate tasks that can be fully defined in the initial question.

I think this was a great question. Made you think, wasn't unsolvable, and sure, he had to add some things to keep it flowing, but is that any different than Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

In this googly world, I am impressed that google was not an immediate friend this time.

Korrekt WeißBlau!

Roland Ratzenberger saved Frentzen's life during Pacific GP weekend in 1994.

Another article mentioning Ratzenberger's heroic act:

Three woman I mentioned as hints, all had famous husbands whose initials were R.R. Ronald Reagan, Roy Rogers and Robert Redford. I thought that it would be helpful.

Your turn.
