This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
What? You think the W03 is going to pick up a couple of tenths if people refer to its maker properly?
I believe we're now witnessing the death throes of a position that's been ill for quite some time. Mercedes GP must exist, because Mercedes GP employees have mouths to feed, and if people would just get the name right, this whole thing would turn around in a flash.
You may sit and pray for this team to fold, as dragonfly. It's your time, not mine. There are means and ways to make a point, that was not one of them. But thanks for your concern about me and "getting overmyself".
You mention EADS, Daimler want to cash for other ventures, and Aerospace is not a CORE HOLDING of the company.
Daimler cannot continue hoping the aviation industry will make a magic turnaround, and an investment outside of their portfolio's core holding, will suddenly make billions.
What is the logical move? Sell the share to a partner with the investment a CORE holding of the company. A company that specialises in aerospace.....like BAE systems....
Moving on.
Mercedes AMG budget is around 130 million a season, and with CVC money30/40million a year, Petronas 30million a year, DHL Allianz Monster etc(combined circa 20/25 million). Real world spend on the team of about 40/50 million.
Now Daimler have an EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) in 2012 of circa 8billion euros.
Why is 40/50 million euros such a problem in an 8 billion profit company, that you want it to fold without a care for any staff? It's simply preposterous.
To actually wish that on someone.....it's an embarrassment.
Your prayers are answered, the team folds and Mercedes save 40 million a year. =D> Bravo, vee can pay vor zee accounting department now!
What then?
You have less to moan about Bhall, so at least give them credit for at least garnering your attention!
Absolutely! Modern F1 for mass car manufacturers is marketing first, racing second.
The really sad thing is, you ask people with no knowledge of F1 and motor racing in general who is this year's winner. 85% of the the respondents will say Ferrari...........
Exposure is worth millions in itself. Mercedes winning in China was probably worth them coming stone last in every other race.
Why?
Marketing in growth markets. The Chinese that turned up or watched it on TV probably haven't done so since then. Their impression of Mercedes F1 team would be different from the reality.
We also have to factor in Mercedes desire to reduce the age of its target markets. F1 fit's into that..... as does the AMG branding, and new model lines like the A-class.
JET, you introduced job losses to this discussion, because it's just about the only rebuttal you've got left. You wanted to shame Dragonfly for his opinion about what he'd like to see happen to this team. I merely countered that pathos with facts that speak directly to the picture you painted.
Just exactly what do you think happens to a company's employees when it needs to cut €1 billion? (Do you think that means they get a raise?) And how can Daimler justify those cuts when it's spending any money whatsoever for the luxury of owning a terrible F1 team? (Or do you think peddling ineptitude is an effective marketing strategy? The company's financial disclosures paint a pretty grim picture on that one.)
If taking the team's employees into account is a valid area of discussion here - and, really, I do hope you at least consider your own thoughts valid - it's also appropriate to point out there's much more than just a Formula One team at stake for Daimler.
And I will counter your anti-pathos by suggesting you are in dreamland comparing an F1 team and it's associated issues with that of of concern Daimler has ploughed 10's of BILLIONS into already.
Exactly, I had to think of Montreal as well. Probably the same fat guys who pulled that leaver lose. Man, it is actually shocking that their brake balance leavers got stuck. Well, it’s probably 3 years old so it started to rust. Btw. out of recent interest, does anybody know if the Mercedes road cars have any problems with rust. I consider buying one.
Let's just hope Brawn had decided to throw all resources at the 2013 car early on and the poor performance in the second half of the 2012 season is the result of this decision, not incompetence.
Brawn just can't say this out loud during the season because he will have to face many angry sponsors for the abysmal performance.
The team isnt capable of giving him a good car before he retires but he has to help them with next years car, Michael you really are a "good guy", too good in my opinion.

He is either a guardian angel for the team, or there is simply something terribly wrong that Micheal is not allowed to speak off.
I wonder how would Lewis react if the team's current performance continues till 2014. He knows that he won't be fighting for championship next year. But he would be expecting at least a podium contender in 2013 and a race winning car in 2014. If it doesn't happen then...
