So apparently a rock/stones kicked up from norris at the beginning lead to alonsos suspension failure. Had damage which worsened over each lap. That’s what motorsport italia and AS have said
One knick destroyed the integrity of the suspension.

I just saw a picture of the suspension damage prior to it failing. One knick destroyed the integrity of the suspension.
Sounds like the FIA need to examine where they allow gravel to be placed, if that would have been a drivers Helmet, it could have cause more serious damage. Maybe they can limit the size of the gravel to prevent such issues.

You could observe that link failing in the slo-mo posted further back.

Fairly low resolution moving image .... but you can see the compression arm (push rod) breaking and splaying the internal fibres out in a downward direction as it yealded and collapsed.

It's not just a "nick" on a structure like this though. That would have lead to partially delamination on the opposite side of the impact site (inside the tube) to reduce its compressive loading capacity from there on forwards.

Looks like a pretty serious hit with decent sized ballistic capacity.

I thought those were just carbon fibre aero covers that covered the actual suspension parts under them.
