It's easy to give the 'correct' answer when you've just won a race.
Rosberg handles it much better because Lewis hasn't put him in a similar situation, of suspecting foul-play. He's beaten him to pole or in the race by merit. Not by stealing the opportunity from him.

And who cares what drivers are saying during interviews? Big deal, claiming the WC crown at the end of the season is all that matters.

Lewis has never been very good at giving 'correct' answers even when he has won, but especially so when he hasn't. The problem is that it's Lewis who immediately perceives that Nico has 'stolen' the opportunity, and he's got his bottom lip out because of that. I'm confident that if the roles were reversed, Nico would have given a more 'correct' answer and at least waited for some evidence before effectively accusing Lewis of cheating. I'm not saying that I'd prefer a sanitised 'correct' answer, because as I said before it makes it more interesting to watch. I just feel Lewis makes himself appear a little petulant a little too often.

To be fair, if it wasn't for the intra team battle going on at Mercedes, and one or the other was just running away with it, I wouldn't be looking forward to seeing what happens in the next race anywhere near as much.

Round-up of Monaco:

1. Lewis Hamilton is not allowed to be publicly upset about his teammate. Isn't Lewis entitled to have his own opinion about the event? Being political correct seems like a very British thing to do. It's seems like in Great-Britten people don't want to be labeled harsh or cruel in the media. When guys like Joey Barton and Roy Keane speak their mind they are always vilified, in Holland we would absolutely love those guys. I''m from Holland and people here are straight up with each other and speak their mind without being political correct most of the times. If have read a lot of British papers and they all think Hamilton acted childish or even petulant. They have rather have people that lack personality like Button or Di Resta rather then personalities with personalities like Irvine and Hamilton.

2. Journalist always moan about the lack of characters in F1, but when somebody speaks his mind they call it childish or unprofessional. Make up your mind journo's!!!!!! Would they have rather see Lewis act political correct and smile before the cameras?

3. Rosberg is starting to show qualities ( win by any means necessary) of a WC with his "error", this is a big eyeopener for Lewis I think.

4. I think Rosberg has opened a can of worms, that would have better left untouched. This "saga" will only strengthen Lewis, sportsmen always thrive under pressure or controversy.

5. Maybe its better for Lewis in the future just the answer the question during interviews with a simple "yes or no", because when their is controversy the media almost every-time paint Hamilton as the villain.

6.Last point about the podium ceremony. If you are upset with someone why would you shake his hand and and act like a hypocrite in front off cameras? F1 is sport first and a show 2nd, F1 is not Hollywood where everything is fake! A bit off rivalry between 2 drivers fighting for the championship is totally normal. We have seen it with Rossi and Lorenzo/Biaggi/Gibernau, Senna and Prost, Hamilton and Alonso, Sampras and Aggasi. Sport is great because the best sportsmen/women trying to beat each other that's what attracts people to sport in the first place and a bit of rivalry is always welcome.

[My position: Nico did on it purpose or atleast reversing on the track to get the yellow out, I don't dislike Nico for it, because when you fight for a WC every trick in the book of tricks is allowed from my point of view. Lewis acted like the way an upset passionate driver/sportsmen should have reacted. The team and especially Toto and Lauda made their position publicly clear which is good. So we at least know they haven't sided with some, like Helmut Marko clearly did in the case of Vettel and Webber]

Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

I have to agree, Leiws has been through this before, and bested the reigning two time world champion.

what you've got to remember is everyone is different in how they control there emotions, we know lewis wears his heart on his sleeve.

But at that point I didn't think Lewis was doing to badly press wise. He said it was ironic, which it was, but apart from that he always said he isn't saying anything (press conference and media pen) so I don't see how that wasn't the correct answer.

I kind of felt the senna comment was the start of the downhill part, because if anything happens it will be brought up.

The comparing merc vs macca wasn't smart in the press but he has a point. It should just be discussed behind closed doors. At the end of the day, if Merc really want to allow them to race then they need to include strategy into that and with one guy for both drivers it contradicts that. I don't think Lewis' plan would of worked, but he has a point that in such a track and because of there set-up it was going to be near impossible for him to get past

you also have to think from mercs point of view it wouldn't be a bad move. Whilst they liked the publicity of Bahrain, they won't like the publicity of a Turkey 2010 and this would help relieve that.
Fair points. He agreed it was ironic, so I guess in hindsight that meant that he appreciated it was a genuine mistake.

The problem with the equal footing on the strategy is that the teams tend to follow the concept of the leading car having first dibs on going in to the pits, which means that if you are the second of the two cars out on track, you simply don't have equality in terms of strategy. I do agree that with two strategists there is a chance that Lewis may have pitted a lap earlier having seen the incident, but this wouldn't work too often, and they'd still need to confirm this with the overall strategist because of the chance of the other car coming in. All in all over the season I think the strategy will favour Lewis, because it will favour the guy in front, which is likely to be Lewis due to the fact that he tends to qualify quicker. It will be very interesting to watch it all pan out. It could well go down to the double points race at the end, but I wouldn't like to see either of them win it due to double points. May be Lewis would consider 'doing a Senna' if he feels that aggrieved by that stage.

I disagree. Giving the driver in front the right to stop first isn't so much favoring him, but rather preventing to favor the trailing driver. It effectively means that you have to be quicker on the track rather than being able to use strategy to come out ahead. I see nothing wrong with that and it's probably less of a strain on the team as otherwise you'd constantly suspect favorism everywhere.

Of course when you come to a track like Monaco, being quicker on the track doesn't necessarily translate into a chance to win and with the safety car, it was virtually impossible for Lewis to win. But then that's Monaco and they have to deal with it.

I'm Really starting to find this Wolff story line tiring. Before almost every race he has some sound bite about how the other teams are catching them, and that they need to work hard to make sure the team stays a head. Someone needs to explain to him that you can push people to hard......

You think that's pushing people too hard?? Man, you should try my job..!!
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I was referring to the repetitiveness of it, the entire team knows they have to be on it. Thus, Wolff repeating himself is starting to sound more and more like someone who wants to make sure everyone knows he is in charge. That mentality has a tendency to demoralize employees over time.

He might not be repeating himself so much, F1 sites have a tendency to regurgitate old news when nothing is happening. I first read about Alonso saying "Mercedes deserve their success" about a month ago and it's just been copy and pasted by everyone.

it is a new quote as it refers to monaco. it is getting boring and might end up having a negative effect over all if he keeps saying this. i've seen no evidence to suggest rivals are catching, even at monaco until lewis had his eye thing they were give or take a sec a lap quicker and the field is usually closer at monaco anyway

Lets not get sucked into the press hysteria and driver leg humping. The number of points in the bag is all that counts.

As for Wolf & Lauda, it's the job of the leading TP to say the others are catching up, just as it's the job of the chasing TPs to say they are going to catch up. The alternative is that they all shrug "What's the point of carrying on because nothing's going to change".
