Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it my impression or the radiator air intakes and sidepods are basically rectangular Brawn air intakes mixed with redbull compact sidepods?

The nose and it's double deck it's an Williams B version, my guess, and for what i see in pictures is that they invested aerodinamically most on the DDD and rear wing, that "hump" on the rear seems to channel more air into the rear wing...

Definitely a push rod. Look at the second photo and you can see the suspension arm going diagonally up to the top of the crash structure.

The things that have hit me from the MP4/25 are theese:

Image

* Front splitter like what the FW32 had last year on its nose.
* Tightly waisted mid section, and tiny radiator inlets.
* Highly developed front wing, was tested last year but never raced.
* Gearbox radiator inlet splitter in the air box, very simmilar to what the Ferrari F2007 had.

Image

* Red Bull RB5 style rear end, really small and tight. Must give DDD extra efficency.
* Red Bull RB5 style shark fin to aid yaw under braking and stabalise vibrations from the rear wing that potentially loose downforce from the flexing.
* Exausts seem to exit in such a way that they go thrugh the rear wing and try to destabalise the wake making the car harder to follow, as the following car will overheat more readily.

Image

* More bulbous area where the fuel hose went on, but this is so the car can take onboard its full 150 or 160 kilos of fuel.

Indeed - looks like they've worked on Williams' system last year and developed it further.

It's interesting that Williams "appears" to have dropped it...

EDIT: I can't find anything in any article about a pull-rod, i'm calling BS?

Push rod indeed.

this design is just so refined, where the upper splitter ends, the lower frontsuspension wishbones acts as flow directors

Dead zone located, I was suspecting all this time the inside of the bodywork could be used aerodynamically, however i did not want to spoil it for everybody. After the whole Goony thing from the start of the thread we all avoided the whole deadzone thing. Being a Mclaren fan too, i don't want other teams using Mclaren's innovations 8)

That opening under the air intake, may well be linked to the shark fin round back, Similar to the 2008 Ferrari nose.

Nice to see a tech spec, until you get to ....
Lubricants Mobil 1 – for higher performance, lower friction, better protection, cooling and wear resistance
... as if the other oils are for lower performance, higher friction, worse protection, cooling and wear resistance ??? #-o

Oh, and this made me giggle:
