I just finished Autoracer's stream and they discussed this a bit.
As far as they're aware, it really was for personal reasons and there was no major conflict between Oakes and Briatore. They had similar visions for the team. Oakes was never a fan of Doohan and he wanted to swap Colapinto in as soon as possible. He and Doohan's team had arguments recently, so the media outlets suggesting the reason Oakes left was because he disagreed with the swap were wrong. It's also wrong that he was looking to replace Horner, or at least no one reputable in the paddock was discussing this aside from tabloid journalists.
