True he didn't set GP2 on fire, but I don't really hold that against him. Not saying you do either zenvision. He has great car control, has beat Liuzzi pretty well for not having as much seat time, and he's outqualified DC a couple times too. Not everybody wins a championship. I sure couldn't do what he does, although I think I'm a pretty good kart racer. Beat the crap out of my buddies on a daily basis. They seem to think, for whatever reason, if you can race good in a videogame you must be a good driver. He has the talent and it would be a shame if they wouldn't let it grow. Stifling his career simply because he didn't beat Liuzzi in one season is childish. It's also too bad Klien had to go. He was a great talent as well and I'm sure he'll show that at Honda next year. If Vettel doesn't get in good with BMW, and I think he already has, Red Bull would be doing themselves a great disservice not going for him. He's awe inspiring.
I hope Scott is able to come back. I would also like to remind everyone that he's got some kinda horrible intestinal disease and doesn't let it keep him from racing. Of course he's cocky, but you would be too, if you were an F1 driver.

Yeah, I have heard that from a few people, are you really sure about it?
Yeah, I saw an interview he did when Speed (the channel) had special coverage for the US GP this year, and he talked about it himself with the Speed (channel) guys. He lives away from America, I don't remember where exactly, but it's because the people there know how to treat his condition well.

It was in a issue of car and driver...and he has not had a flare up for the last year and a half with his intestial disease.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.
My Mom has Crohns disease that affects what she can and can't eat, but she still has to function. She hasn't had a bad recurrance in a year or so, but it's a bad thing to hang over your head. So maybe he hasn't had any flare ups, but from experience with my Mom, it's not a good thing if it does show it's head.
I just did the research; and Scott Speed suffers from Ulcerative Colitis -- an inflamatory autoimmune disorder, that is episodic, an inflammation of the lining of the colon, which is extremely painful, including joint pain, dehydration, anemia, fever and abdominal cramps among other symptoms . I had a friend who was plagued by this during his university years, it was suggested it was the stress of his MA and PHD years, since then -- 30 years ago -- he has not had another episode.
With STR giving Bourdais a test, is it possible a driver swap may happen?
In the Champ Car series, there are very few prominent drivers from the USA. And McDonalds sponsors the Newman Haas team. Politically, it seems that getting a driver from the USA in that car makes more sense.
Bourdais to STR and Speed to Newman Haas?
Interesting point Dave - I was wondering why Bourdais suddenly got a test (and he is bothering to drive the car). Reading between the lines in Bourdais interviews, he sounds like the sort of guy who wouldn't do this just for the fun of it.
In the future Scott Speed will feature a high tech chipset including wireless internet conection providing data from both him and the car. His organism will be assisted by nanomachines, and of course he'll use teleportation to move around, just like anybody else from the future.

Sorry, that's what happen when I have nothing to say but can't stand still waiting for testing to resume...
Racecar drivers are racecar drivers, the fact that he can come out of that Red Bull exercise on top, made it all the way to F1, means he is no slouch even if by comparison he may or maynot be as good as his peers(and that is hard to judge in F1 now without knowing all the ins and outs of the intra team dynamic....
he might be the only Red Bull sponsored driver on iRacing. (he is still under contract as a Red Bull athlete, one reason he hasn't ventured out racing for anybody else in another series).
