There may very well be some good talent in Indycar.I haven't watched enough of it to give an opinion on exactly who.Even the best, most experienced Indycar driver will be a
rookie if he moves over to F1 - it's a new series to them afterall and Indycar is probably more different to F1 than an F1 feeder series like GP2.So perhaps the Indycar driver would be more of a rookie than the GP2 driver.

By the time you get to GP2 or other feeder series (even DTM as in Di Resta's case) you've already racked up quite a bit of experience - it's not like F1 teams are picking up green drivers who've never raced. Most have started in carts from about eight years of age then they've gone through series such as Formula Ford, Renault or BMW,F3 and then perhaps F2 or GP2 for example.By this stage these guys are already very good drivers and deserve their shot in F1. They would need to adapt to F1 just the same as an Indycar driver would.

Mkw0101 - I think it's a bit harsh to say that the rookies this year aren't very good - I think they've been hugely impressive! Bear in mind that they don't have the best cars
, they're not exactly going to be winning with Saubers, Force India's and Williams and the HRT and Virgins make it difficult for any driver to show what they're made of,
experienced or not.Sergio Perez has impressed me the most.He looks really quick and clever too.I really think that when he graduates to a better team, he's going to win a lot of races.I see him at Ferrari one day, a future WC.
Look at Paul Di Resta too - the guy is very quick and very impressive. A lot of people have been putting Sutil down lately but I've always believed Sutil is
a really talented, underrated driver. Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Liuzzi is doing a great job at HRT and Sutil outclassed him when they were together at FI.
That Di Resta is really holding his own against Sutil is for me not an indication that Sutil is not very good but rather of just how good Di Resta is. Let's see what he's
capable of in a better car. Remember he beat his teammate, a certain Sebastian Vettel in the 2006 F3 Euroseries.

I wasn't expecting much from Maldonado but the guys really impressed me. He's looked quicker than Barichello lately.
He looks a bit rougher round the edges than the 2 mentioned above, nevertheless he looks to have a lot of potential.
Basically everyones a rookie to begin with but from those rookies and the feeder series already mentioned will come another Senna or Schumacher

Just wanted to add - I think that this year's rookies are some of the most talented in
recent memory!

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the top 6 drivers at the end of the season in the IRL are eligible for a FIA Super License and could race in Formula One. I don't know if teams look at IndyCar drivers now, but they ought to. IndyCar is the 2nd most elite open-wheel racing series (next to F1), so why not?

I'd say that GP2 is the second most elite racing series after F1. I would like to see a lap time comparison but as the paths will never cross we will never know!

I've watched a few IRL races recently and it struck me how many of the drivers used to have F1 testing contracts..and so if they were any good, they surely then the teams would have kept them?

The fact that Dario Franchitti keeps winning the series is a worry as the younger, faster drivers should be pressing him.

It also strikes me as a series where " all cars are equal, yet some are more equal than others" if you pardon the horrific paraphrase !

How can you even say that of an series that is vastly different to Formula 1 and barely visits countries outside North America?

can you imagine it, all the off track theatrics when Will Power crashes out.... put him in the Red Bull Garage and we will certainly have an entertaining season.

Scott Dixon to Ferrari, Fred would have his hands full on and off the track

And Tony Kanaan, well who doesnt love that guy :D
