Bernie vs Todt on engine

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

It means that both the throttle and the brake pedal will have permanently two torque sources attached to them. A digital computer program meshes the two torque sources.

Throttle pedal: torque comes from ICE and electric motors
Brake pedal: torque comes from disk brakes and electric generators

Electric motors and generators are actually one MGU in F1 design, but for the purpose of control they are governed by two different pedals.

Cheers, and how do you think the Turbo Compounding will work?

It looks like they will use a mainly electrical version where the excess power from the exhaust turbine is put to a generator to provide electricity which eventually is used in the electric motors. It was actually said in the Rencken article that they will not feed that electricity to the batteries but straight to the electric motor. Thsi will avoid four costly conversion processes which all cost efficiency.

Cool, just ducked down to my local newsagent and browsed thru a copy of Race Car Engineering which showed an electric generator in-between the 2 turbines. 8)

If we do get 800hp+ I'll be thrilled as I really think the high HP cars sort the men from the boy's - the Ground effect proposal with smal front and rear "tuning" wings should really liven things up too! [-o<
